i thought that the BFI would take in anything that wasn't being retained by the copyright owners? No such luck, unfortunately. To be honest, the BFI are not up to the job of looking after TV in addition to cinema. That's been proved time after time by the amount of stuff they could have saved yet turned down. There needs to be another body dedicated to archiving TV specifically. Perhaps one day Kaleidoscope's operation will be put on such a footing..?

Thanks for that info Laurence. I didn't know that! ... makes you want to swear in a loud voice. A committee was specifically set up in the late 1960s to oversee the entry of televsion programmes into the BFI archive for posterity. During the 1970s they met every three months to discuss the previous quarterly output and make recomendations to include into the archive from television history. Their aim was not to include every edition of 'No Hiding Place' (because of space concerns) but a fair representation of the series across the years and especially the notable episodes and not the clunkers. During their meetings in the early 1970s they were keen to keep a fair few 'Stars on Sunday' as a comtemporary view on religion and entertainment for future generations studying the 1970s. Well I dont what they did at those meetings, bugger all! by the look of it today.

Peter - I would imagine that they just contemplated their own navels and discussed the price of haddock rather than got anything constructive done.

Hmm. Pleased to see this release. It seems though that there are a few more episodes existing after all, more in line with the '90s Kal listing.
