Hi, does anyone know what UK and European tv appearances exist from the early days of Hot Chocolate 1970-73? I know there is at least one clip from TOTP Nov 1972. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks
Jason

Here's the totp still existing: Hot Chocolate-You'll Always Be A Friend (16th November, 1972 ) & 1974 Hot Chocolate-Emma ( 28th March, 1974 or 14th March, 1974 ) (not sure which one)

They also appear in an existing 1970 edition of Ed & Zed. I'd like to see appearances for their other early hits though, such as Brother Louie and Love Is Life.

Yeah, especially "Brother Louie". Curious to see if Alexis Korner turned up to say his line

There are plenty of studios appearances of Hot Chocolate on Dutch TVs Toppop although these begin at 1974 (Emma). There are a couple of promos from '71 on the Sensational Sounds of the Seventies DVDs.

I can see this is another bit that should have gone in my other thread on pop acts missing from the archives! Didn't Hot Chocolate record a version of Give Peace A Chance as their first single? I don't suppose anything exists of them performing it. One early one I liked of theirs was You Could Have Been A Lady. I've never seen a clip of this song either.
What do they perform on Ed and Zed, Laurence? I haven't heard of this show.

Give Peace A Chance was released on the Apple Records label - I think the serial number was Apple 13, and it was late '69 and I'm doing this by memory. Lennon was actually the one who signed them up! They manage to blag their way into see him and he liked what they did.
I'll check about the date. I think it was produced by Mickie Most too.
Hang on....

It was Apple 18, and it wasn't til they signed with RAK before they were produced by Mickie Most.
But they were a Lennon discovery and it was late '69.
I don't recall there being a promo film or any TV appearances for it. I certainly haven't seen any. Whereas the likes of Mary Hopkin, Billy Preston, Badfinger and the Radha Krsna Temple had made either TOTP appearances or films or BOTH, a lot of singles-only artists do not have seemed to on Apple (e.g Chris Hodge, the Sundown Playboys and obviously Brute Force!)
Haven't seen anything relating to Doris Troy from this period either, unless you count the music for the unreleased Timothy Travel pilot....
I've meandered a bit, sorry....

Don't forget the Music Unlimited performances.
They appeared twice I think.

Not twice, but three times: I Believe (In Love) Mary-Anne You Could've Been A Lady
all available on the "Sensational Sounds of the 70's" DVDs. Be prepared for rather mediocre quality though.

I don't think the 'master tapes' have been used to make the Sensational Sounds of the 70's DVDs. On the 'Testament of the Seventies' DVD box set Mungo Jerry perform 'In the Summertime' using the same promo and the picture is far superior, less scratchy, better definition and better colour. The audio has been sorted out too on the 'Testament' copy.

I doubt if the film masters or negatives exist from something like this made by a very small production company so all that were available to the dvd makers were maybe some faded scratched prints. At least they are out there and I am sure more could be done to clean them up if it was asked for. I wonder who owns the rights to all those promo films now? Dave

This may be true Dave however the point I was trying to make was the copy of the Mungo Jerry on the Testament DVD appears to come from a better source than the Sensational Sounds of the 70's. It's not just a case of the same footage 'tidied up' because the Sensational Sounds of the 70's footage is noticeably grainy whereas the Testament copy has no grainy effect, it's as if it's from a much cleaner 16mm reel of film.
