Does anyone know where this clip of Screaming Lord Sutch comes from what a showman he was as far as i know there's not a lot of his material around i think this is a fascinating clip. www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2ZsWENob1s

cant be too certain now
but i believe it was a Alan Wicker doc for the BBC about why people like to be scared .
the title was something like witches and wizards and things that go bump in the night ...or something like that ...cant remember at this moment.

I remember watching the General Election coverage sometime in the early 90's probably, and during the coverage they showed an old 60's b&w clip of Sutch singing Jack The Ripper. They showed the song in it's entirety which surprised me, maybe it was early in the evening before the results started coming in thick and fast. I've never seen it since, and it wasn't that youtube clip either.

That's interesting. Was it colour or b/w? Maybe it was the Scopitone film promo or even the Beat Club '70s VT appearance?

It was black & white. It was a more ordinary looking concert type video rather than the theatrics of that youtube clip. It wasn't the promo, I've seen that.

Hmm, maybe it was from the '72 rock'n'roll show at Wembley? Maybe even newsreel footage of it.

Could have been newsreel, the entire clip was maybe 5 minutes with some other b&w footage of Sutch(can't remember exactly what) before the song itself.

You've just reminded me - I know one of David Sutch's close friends, Alan Hope. Alan is the leader of the OMRLP, and lives in the next town to the West of me. He has a huge music collection and I'll ask him if he has any clips of Sutch at all. You never know.

Been wanting to see this for years so great we can now see it in it's entirety. Should be great fun and a timely reminder of Sutch's showmanship.

I know Alan Hope, now leader of the OMRLP, and a long time compatriot of Dave Sutch's. I will message him today and ask if he has any footage of Sutchy.
I don't expect he will have, but....

Watched the whole documentary last night. Absolutely wonderful. Great snapshot of the times. The performance footage is wonderfully funny - great showman. Absolutely love The Savages solo entry with Carlo Little's drum solo and the burst of "The Hall Of The Mountain King!" Amusing to think that Ritchie Blackmore was in and out the band during this era so would had been jumping about in the loincloths. Blackmore said as recently as last year that everything he knows about performing on stage he learned from David Sutch.

Have been in touch with Alan by phone, and he will be looking through his archive of all things Sutch and Loony-related when he can.
He is the leader of a political party....so he is a busy man! :-)
