I always assumed, until I came across this website below, that the 1968 League Cup between Leeds United and Arsenal was never broadcast by any network. This was mainly due to a lack of any broadcast footage repeated in any form, by any broadcaster including official club histories from either club. This now brings up a second query as to what became of the programme broadcast by Rediffusion London that were made by ATV. Is there even any sort of available archive? homepage.ntlworld.com/carousel/ITV/ATVLondon.html

Interesting. This suggests the possibility that the ATV archive might still have some Rediffusion material in it's vaults (something which has been mentioned in the past but the possibility returns here). The last I heard, ATV t/rs were still being audited / catalogued. Does anyone have a definite update on this situation?

I know the 68 League Cup Final was filmed by ATV London (commentator Hugh Johns), and all there were was 'exclusive highlights'. There MAY be some footage on YouTube (try the 'Leeds, Leeds, Leeds' search perhaps). I don't know if this particularly helps, but it shouldn't hinder things!

I've dug out the video. There's a minute or so of colour film footage of the game. There's no original commentary-just John Motson talking about Leeds' quest for 4 trophies each season.
I'm sure I've seen B&W Pathe news footage also but never the ATV footage with Hugh Johns.

I have recently been looking at the DVDs of the football series The Big Match. They run the tiltle sequences for each season covered and for the 1968-69 season there is a short VT clip of Terry Cooper scoring the winning goal in the 1968 League Cup Final. However,I would not know if anything else of that broadcast now still exists.

I noticed this clip myself but unfortunatly there appears to be very little of ITV's pre-1968 football broadcast available. Even when ITV make football documentaries they tend use the BBC archive to illustrate the sixties. My earliest ITV find was the 1967/68 Tyne Tees broadcast between Newcastle and Manchester City when City won the title. In 2008 ITV Central used the BBC's colour footage from the 1968 FA Cup Final in their 'Glory Years - WBA' documentary. As the black and white version was used for the official DVD release I can only assumed the full version (shown of BBC 2) is either unavailable, damaged or even worse mostly wiped. Unless somebody knows different.

Yes I have the DVD of the 1968 FA Cup final which is a B&W telerecording. I queried this with the company who produced it who confirmed that the colour VT version was incomplete.
