Guys,
I've recently been archiving my U-Matic recordings of conventions and college tapes onto DVCam and came across a tape that has been sitting on my shelf for about 15 years. It's got an awful TK transfer on of a CBS news report and I was just going to throw it out. However, winding the tape to the end it ran out after 50 minutes and I get the last 5 minutes of an episode of Hazell. It's an off-air from polling day 1979, as there are all the commercials, the spring season on ITV trailer, the ATV presenter announcing News at Ten and then Alastair Burnett and Sandy Gall presenting the news, the polls just having closed.
I didn't start recording on U-Matic until 1985, so where it has come from is a mystery, but the quality is of course perfect. Very interesting to see the season trailer.
Anyone else find unusual things on the end of tapes?
Cheers,
Paul

Not on the same scale as your find, but I remember finding a few minutes of Granada from 1992 at the end of a VHS tape a few years ago, featuring a junction from Zorro into the ITV Chart Show via trailers, adverts, and some IVC from Charles Foster.

A donated VHS has the break bumper of "Anyone For Denis" and ads and STV telecine ad bumper!
I researched the TX date in another thread - must be 26/12/83 or something near that....

I bought a few 1970s era VHSes at a flea market here in the States a few years back for $1.00 each. Made several interesting finds on them.
Most of the tapes were recorded around 1979-81 (and on one of the old VCRs that didn't have the SLP speed, thankfully) and had crappy Westerns on them, but one "end of tape" find I recall is that when one of those Westerns ended, the rest of the tape cotained the last half (or so) or the original NBC airing of the "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" pilot movie.
And one tape had a rare animated "blimp" CBS bumper for "Tarzan and the Super 7" followed by commercials and a Chris Wallace "In the News" segment.

I'm sure I still have an old Beta taape that includes a desparate Thames continuity announcer adlibbing for 5 plus minutes whilst a fault is fixed. he goes almost all the way through the TV Times for the rest of the week.
Must get to check out my last Beta recorder and see if I can get it going again.

was that the thing about the 1980 eposiode being restored, no i missed it, anyone got it online? inanutshell the accidental erasing of a 1980 episode, they cleaned up and vidfired a B/W TR and matched it to the colour from a VHS viewing copy taken from the original tape, I still think John Nokes was the best , all those stunts without so much as a life insurance policy and all for £40 a week I'm sure someone will have it, have you tried the mausoleum club

According to Steve Roberts, the B/W TR was very poor quality so instead they used the VHS dub for the studio shots and re-inserted the film inserts.

Nope, and to be honest I thought the whole idea of re-combining colour from a VHS with a B&W TR + Vidfiring would have been far too costly for purely a 10 minute B.P. feature. The episode in question was pretty much run of the mill, nothing which would have justified any major recovery work considering the film inserts still survive.

I recently shopped at E-bay and I managed to purchase two DVDs. One was from 1975-77, and it features adverts, captions slides for Man About The House (Summer 75), Goldfinger (Oct 76), Thunderball (Feb 77) and You Only Live Twice (Nov 77), trailers for Armchair Thiller, Thames (Sept/Oct 77 & Apr 1979), LWT (Feb 77, Nov 77), and London Weekend continuity from 1977.
The second and Southern Continuity from Xmas 1977, Xmas 1979, LWT/Thames continuity from 1980 and 1978 plus ITV Autumn Trailer.
I also manage to purchase from a friend, ITV Schools and colleges tape from 1976-1977. It features Thames continuity from 1976 by Christopher Robbie and some unknown person, LWT continuity from 1977, 1978 & 1979 and Thames continuity from 1977, 1979 & 1981.
