I disagree. Everything on youtube does not fall into the categories of safely archived television and happy slapping mobile phone videos! Many of the user generated video clips generate much higher viewing figures than contemporary British television. It is user centred rather than a schedule being fed to the viewer. Will the content that people of this decade choose to watch be deemed culturally unimportant by future researchers? i personaly think it will be seen in a similar light to the material that was viewed as being culturaly unimportant in the 50s and 60s and is now seen as being invaluable documents of how we used to live and be entertained. Its just a thought anyhow! I agree that there has been a few great thinsg on youtube like idependent films and even mini dramas. But wont most of them have already been stored away by the people who make them? I do hope that Youtube does keep the top videos of every week but with over a million videos on the site its going to be hard to decide on whats relevent.

A piece of good news.
ITV have given us the remaining case files of people who contacted the Raiders initiative in 2006, and I have started calling people.
Good news may be around the corner methinks.

I think television companies really should make an effort to open some line, however small, of communication for the private collector. In my opinion every encouragement should be given for collectors who on passing away could return a relevant archive back to the broadcaster. Rightly or wrongly there is a percieved lack of interest from the broadcasters and that should change.

'ITV have given us the remaining case files of people who contacted the Raiders initiative in 2006, and I have started calling people.' Excellent!! Good to hear that if that ITV don't have the time / inclination / budget to follow up these leads, at least they are passing on the info to some people who do. BBC, where are you ??

Indeed it sounds like something positive may have come from this, good luck Chris and team!
Just out opf interest wasnt there supposed to be a clip featured of Cliff Richard in A matter of Diamonds on this show or was that in the original? I can't remember!
I particularly enjoyed the reminiscences of Ronnie Corbett, Rolf Harris and Bill Oddie on the show, it would have been interesting to run a similar format with other stars but giving full half hour slots to an individual star, as In the case of someone like Noddy Holder its obvious the surface was only scratched, and i suspect the same for some of the other stars too.
I think its got potential to make a regular series on some channel, possibly a retrospective show followed by an archive programme (BBCFour?), could you imagine say Ronnie Corbett's lost archive followed by the showing of The Corbett Follies? LOL - Ok maybe not, but I'd watch it!

Hi Andy, i spent hours on the phone helping their researcher (Rachel?) about Cliff's ATV catalogue and 'A Matter of Diamonds' and was promised a copy on the show's broadcast. Needless to say nothing was ever sent. Shortly after they relocated their offices from Leeds to Newcastle (or vice-versa) and i lost all contact. I think they had hoped Cliff would take part, but when he turned it down i think the item was relegated, but still supposedly included in one of the 3 shows. Apparantly they interviewed the actress who played lead alongside Cliff in this 30-minute play from 1968.

Thanks Paul, what a shame that it wasnt included, I'd be really curious to see this as Cliff apparently played quite a nasty character, still, maybe it will get dusted down and brought out of the archive one day!
