What survives of This Is Your Life?
I'm mainly thinking of the 1960s/70s era as occasionally you see clips from some shows, i.e. Hattie Jacques, Graham Hill, yet others like Clive Dunn's I believe no longer exist.
I'm also wondering about the archive status of Richard Gordon's as he refused to be done live , does this survive?
Many of these were NEVER repeated and am sure would make interesting viewing now.

The kal book lists them
There is a good smattering.
I wish the Jack Good one existed in non audio form!
A few pop up on youtube e.g. Reg Varney.
They must be out there in trading circles; I don't have any.I know of one site that lists some, but he a bit snooty about trading stuff.

I seem to remember hearing that Gordon said something quite rude at the time, it's a programme I used to watch quite a lot as a kid as it was always on and the music still rings in my ears after all these years. I only have one edition in my collection, maybe BBCFour could show some at some point?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that in the early days, guests would get a record of their show after it was broadcast (obviously long before the days of video) - does anyone know how true this is?

That would be brilliant if it did! I loved all the fake surprise! Danny Blanchflower turned them down completely I remember reading.

I just came here to post a new question about This is Your Life, but this thread will be perfect to pose it in: This Is Your Life used to often show clips from shows when they had actors as the subject. Have any surviving TIYL shows form the 1960's and 1970's inadvertantly saved clips of shows where the original show the clip came from has been wiped? There's a full list of Thames TIYL here by the way www.geocities.com/Hollywood/5144/thislife.htmlThe topic of which ones exist has been on this forum before, long time ago. A search may bring up more info.

Theres a real list of classic actors /entertainers and personalities there too. I'm sure some of these would make great DVD's or extra's if Thames decided to release rights to them. Like i'd forgotten Peter davison had been done back in 1982 - I dare say rights could be difficult but it would make a great extra on a Doctor Who DVD.

Often wondered why the series couldnt be released on disc. This was good TV. Still got lots of shows on disc ( including the Peter Davison one ) It was the highlight of a lot of peoples weeks. Used to be some cringeworthy moments though, when surprise guests came on, and it was clear that the subject didnt have the foggiest idea who they were. Puzzled though, recently got the Spike Milligan show, and yet, Im sure I remember his ex love from Italy ( Toni ) appearing on the show. Shes not on this one though. Im wondering if Spike was the subject of the show on more than one occasion. Did ANYONE feature more than once ?

Gordon said Balls as i recall to Eamonn Andrews! yes quite an exciting edition as they gave the impression it was happening live as after the "balls" there was confusion and crashing pictures then suddenly the Thames fanfare locked up and titles went again and it turned into Sam Kydd's TIYL

Ah! quite envious there Eric! I remember been really excited when Peter Davison was featured and it was quite funny with Eamonn stepping out of The TARDIS! I'm wondering if Spike was featured more than once too, maybe before or after the show was on ITV? It wouldnt surprise me as he was featured on Desert island Discs twice (with a gap of 18 years).
Thanks for that memory Peter! Did they really do that with Richard Gordon's? I guess it made exciting and controversial viewing at the time. I'd still love to see that one!

Jimmy Savile lays claim to being the only person alive to have two red books. He showed them to Jarvis Cocker in some documentary about pop.
I'm pretty sure Dudley Moore was featured twice. First in 1972 and again in very late 80's or early 90's. Definitely saw that one since I remember Cook was on video flamboyantly puffing away on a ciggie!

Wasn't Eamonn himself 'done' twice?
