Apart from the fact that we all want this footage to exist , is there any substantial evidence out there that does prove its existence. (Just I know it exists does not count!) I quoted a guy earlier in this thread (Nik33 of the Steve Hoffman forum) who says he has seen it. Yes I know that's anecdotal but I'm familiar with his posts on that forum, and he knows his stuff on surviving Beatles footage. He's also very quick (sometimes too quick I think) to shoot down rumours of material that in his option doesn't exist. (for instance, I've had a several arguments with him about the possibility of Hamburg footage existing - he argues point blank that no Hamburg footage exists, I argue it's impossible to prove a negative etc etc) so he doesn't strike me as the type to fudge details or blow a memory out of proportion - as far as I can tell he's a well connected uber Beatles fan who knows the right people and has seen this footage. Other evidence is - press reports that the footage was offered to Apple for Anthology, but rejected due to poor quality, and the fact that the Hollies and Kinks appearances from the same show just happen to have turned up in collector circles. I imagine if it does indeed exist, it will be on the quality scale of the Kinks clip. That said, I will need to see a few screen grabs to fully confirm that it does exist. And in saying that, where does a screen grab compromise the rarity of the piece? I think whoever has a copy owes that much to the volume of comments made as to its survival.

Chris Perry of Kal announced the discovery of 11 seconds of off air 8mm film from this performance today. 'DISCOVERY 426: Top of the Pops – 16.6.1966. EXTRACT ONLY The Beatles singing ‘Paperback Writer’. Produced by Johnnie Stewart Directed by Johnnie Stewart A BBC production for BBC 1. Originally transmitted 16.06.1966 Eleven seconds of pure history. All recordings were believed lost of the Beatles in the Top of the Pops studio singing live, until earlier in 2018 when Kaleidoscope were sent an 8mm film to examine. Unsurprisingly with something of this importance, rumours began of its existence and the owner of the 8mm film told a few people what they had found. Initially unwilling to return the footage to the BBC, the collector eventually decided they wanted more people to enjoy the moment when someone saw the Beatles on the Christmas Day repeat screening and filmed them singing, using their new Christmas present. 8mm film.'

the collector eventually decided they wanted more people to enjoy the moment when someone saw the Beatles on the Christmas Day repeat screening Well hopefully their wishes will be honoured and we'll get to see it. It's only short after all. Someone whack it up on youtube. Or failing that, a short segment on The One Show would do!
