I used to love watching this on a Saturday teatime. Does much still exist? And whatever happened to the Wrestling Channel that was mooted for digital TV?

The Wrestling Channel has been up and running on Sky for a few weeks now. They are showing some old Kent Walton stuff, but the ones I saw seemed to be the dull midweek bouts rather than the Saturday World of Sport classics.

Indeed old Les was the best entertainment , and he must have been about 70 even then. I always liked Alan Dennison too, and Johnny Kwango, who did some acting (albeit silently!) later. Judo Pat Roach is also best known as an actor these days, along with the late Leon Arras (Brian Glover).

Dale...do you know if any of the Kellett bouts survive?

Not Dale here, but I saw some of the stuff also used in snippets on terrestrial broadcasting recently. This seems to include some Les Kellett material probably 1974 - 76. I'm not very ggod with wrestlers names but seem to only be able to recall Les, Mick McManus & Big Daddy being regulars (though 'Daddy' may've been slightly later). Think Mick McManus was on ITV fights around 1968 too as I recall, which would've been Rediffusion.

In 1968, I think Wrestling would have been taken care of by ITV Sport, rather than Rediffusion, although the individual ITV companies did cover various sporting events sometimes.

Was Kendo Nagasaki ever un-masked?

As I recall, the rule for masked wrestlers was that they could only wear the mask until they lost : therefore, after a few years Nagasaki duly lost and from then on wrestled maskless (not a pretty sight). He also appeared to change from 'baddy' to 'pseudo-goody'. However, a few years on he re-appeared in mask, calling himself 'King Kendo', and was a 'baddy' again.

Jackie Pallo was another regular I suddenly recalled. I'll have to dig out the sequence that appeared of clips on something in the '90s. There were some Fred Dineage clips, very early introducing, probably 1970 on mastertape. This may indicate how early any potential wrestling material existing may go back to. When I find the tape I've got I'll note down what was shown & post it on. I believe Pallo was featured, clips around 73 - 75.

Late reply this one. I was told that the mysterious Kendo Nagasaki was one Peter Thornley from the Wolverhampton area. Apparently keeping his identity a secret, and I mean outside the ring too, was made a little easier by having a paid posse around him to do all his bidding. This was all financed by a number of properties he had inherited from his rather well to do family.
