Whatever the price quoted, who is going to pay? Is there a charity I can apply to? A dirty raincoat collective, perhaps? I simply don't have the money and neither does anyone else. Where did Marshall himself hail from?

Where did Marshall himself hail from? Fred was American but never stayed in one place for too long. His was a roving brief.

If you can keep the costs down further by keeping the images negative rather than positive then you can flip them positive in a computer programme later Erm... if he is getting the film telecined, the operator will just have to flick a switch to turn negative into positive. Ken. I was just thinking that whoever, might charge for that privilege? and just another way of keeping that cost down.

Looks like the BFI are quoting from cloud cuckoo land? what you actually need is just a viewing copy of what you have on the reels. So don't bother about any restoration they might need at this stage, telecines and scanners are gentle compared to old projectors. You can get a quote from some where like this www.stanleysonline.co.uk/scategory-18.htm and as long as you keep mentioning you just want a straight run through without any grading etc onto a domestic format such as dvd or vhs that should get the costs right down. From you picture you look like you have about 5000ft. If you can keep the costs down further by keeping the images negative rather than positive then you can flip them positive in a computer programme later Whatever the price quoted, who is going to pay? Is there a charity I can apply to? A dirty raincoat collective, perhaps? I simply don't have the money and neither does anyone else. The place best suited for this restoration is Kickstarter. I've seen many worthless projects get major funding via Kickstarter. Perhaps some members of the community can help get such a thing started. I am dying to see ANY Idle Race footage!

As I've said to Peter Stirling in a PM: anything to get this damned monkey off my back! Like yourself and Thomas, I would love to see ANY 1968 footage of the Idle Race - even if it is only a few seconds of the group prancing around in Kensington Gardens. Not sure they would be too thrilled about it, seeing as none of the group wanted to speak to me about their involvement. Ditto Andrew Lauder.

Well Roger Spencer spoke to me about the groups involvement but sadly it was just to say that he cannot remember a f***ing thing about it. There was a vague/maybe/probably/possible recollection but it wasn't even enough to add any insight. Footage of the band 'prancing around' sounds WONDERFUL to me!! :-)

It's the same story with just about everyone including the three-man Dead Sea Fruit, whose involvement in Popdown has gone unacknowledged until now. They couldn't tell me what they were doing in London in March 1968, let alone what they were doing at Hatchetts in Piccadilly. The group were supposed to have been France-based and WERE in France in March of 1968.
