So is there any word on which episode this footage comes from? It's from 'Who's Your Friend', written by Peter Grimwade, but I don't know how long the recovered footage lasts. Stuart

Does that mean 40 minutes of the actual episode as transmitted, or are the reels largely of untransmitted footage? Stuart

Stuart No. it's rushes of the film sequences - possibly from both episodes but we haven't viewed them yet.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to amass around 40 episodes each of Z cars and softly softly....it beats me why the BBC are sitting on these and not making use of them.
Probably they go way over the heads of a good proportion of the more modern "yoof" audience.....

Probably they go way over the heads of a good proportion of the more modern "yoof" audience..... And THAT is the problem... if you're over 40, it's tough... the TV and music industry don't care about you at all because they're obsessed with getting younger viewers and listeners who are more likely to be found downloading the drivel they watch and listen to, playing on their Playstations, leaving older viewers being fleeced by the licence fee getting zero consideration. The amount of "Z Cars" episodes that do exist, is actually plentiful and would take a long time to get through them all. There's zero chance they'll ever all be given a DVD release. That's why discoveries such as this is great but ultimately annoying because where is the chance to get to see the episodes, let alone isolated film sequences from missing ones?

I'm 27 and I'd love to check this stuff out. I do think that many distribs forget that there are older markets that need to be explored. If they wait a few more decades, they've completely lost a possible market.

I agree, that is a possibility Paulryan. However given the interest that the BBC has already placed on this series on DVD, and given the amount of other material that remains is a factor as well. Also, look at the recovered lost season 1 episodes of The Avengers were released in a special edition DVD single release of the episodes, as well as a lot of other rare tidbits, and clips. However as always there are rights, costs, market demand, etc items which could cause some delays. Also the BBC as well as the other broadcasters have been engaged in archive preservation projects, transferring material to a modern format for stability and storage. This process gave us recoveries like the Doctor Who Space Pirates,Power of The Daleks, Fury From The Deep material. Also there was a episode of Adam Adamant Lives that was found misfiled in the archives I believe. I would guess that this material will be seen on a release of some sort in the near future, can't say for sure of course.
Cheers, Lance.

With so many full episodes awaiting a release, I think it'll be a long time until this shows up Lance. Doctor Who is one thing, Z-Cars (sadly) another thing entirely. Cheers Stuart
