For crying out loud! THERE ISN'T AND NEVER WAS a thirteenenth episode!!! It's simple! As stated earlier, 'The Rat' was tx'd some six (?) months after the rest of the second series because of industrial action at the BBC. I used to work in the Film & VT Library at Television Centre amd on numerous occasions investigated the Fawlty Towers holdings, only to find that there only existed the TX tapes, no studio recordings are left, only the bits on the Christmas Tape. Enough said, lads???

I was only asking with a mixture of speculation mixed with a strong dose of scepticism. That's all.

Very difficult, proving that something doesn't exist.

Not really, just believe people who were really there. I think, including me, two people from the BBC have posted on this thread that there isn't another episode. Why do you have such a hard time believing? I worked at the BBC for 15 years (1976-1989) before I left. I worked in the Transcription Service Library from 1976-1983 then in VT Current Ops at Television Centre from 1983-1989. Anything else?

Very difficult, proving that something doesn't exist. Easier to say that something never existed though. Recording a half-hour comedy show isn't something that you can just do without anyone noticing...

I've just read page 1 and 2 again, and although we got to two pages there's no-one here who needs convincing. I haven't actually seen Lars' book with the script, but according to the reviews he included a lot of material that he clearly made all by himself - biographies of the characters, drawings, theories. Ok, he didn't start the 13th rumour - but I guess he had heard of it, so when he started writing his FT book he decided to "find" the 13th episode. And so he "found" it, assisted by 12 examples and a little bit of creativity, and a provenance that can't be verified. At least, that's the best explanation I can come up with. But his joke is what may have kept the rumour alive.
