This is exactly the wrong way to go about doing this...
1) he should advertise that he's looking for 16mm Dr. Who episodes full stop. (rather than mentioning individual titles) 2) He should NOT specify a price...
As others have said - if you specify a high price, or say exactly what you are looking for, should anyone actually have it, they're just going to hold out for more... And it will bring hoaxers and crooks out of the woodwork...
(As an aside, I think that the chances of such an ad finding anything are slim to none... But I guess it doesn't hurt to try.... As I've said before the fact that even non-missing episodes almost never turn up in private hands should be a good indication of just how many prints are actually out there ... I can count on one hand the number of Dr. Who prints that have been on ebay in the last 5 years, whereas, there have been hundreds of, say, star trek prints up in the same period).

Well, I've decided to put an advert in the local Friday-Ad, see what happens...

it may even be better to make it more general still, ie wanted tv film, comedy, sci fi etc, more false leads but less chance of missing something.

Is Ian Levine offering a higher price than that? Has he actually publicised this offer anywhere? I don't think he has...in which case it is hardly surprising that nobody has come forward. I think his offer is 2,000 pounds per episode. That is equivalent to about 3,900 dollars. Sorry, but in this day and age, 2000 quid aint gonna persuade anybody to give up a lost episode considering the amount of money that would then be made from an official dvd/video release.

Well, it may well be enough if you consider that they probably picked the print up themselves for next to nothing. So it would be a good return on what they paid by any standards. Also, some people will not place much value on some of the things they collect and not even know what they have is missing (and a lot of people are only too happy for a copy to be made if they do - it's only the money-grabbing few that try to make a fortune that we get to hear about).

Unfortunately, since all this time has passed, it is also the money grabbing few who will still have any mising episodes of Dr Who
