How good is this, modern ratings wise?, taking into account all the channels now available and timeshift etc, it looks pretty good to me though.

As the Christmas schedule is what I call relentless entertainment I feel that the Christmas Special will stand out so much that David Tennant will get an even bigger launch figure than Christopher Eccleston did. I do not think anyone should prejudge David Tennant as besides the actor a lot rests in the script quality which has been outstanding in the Christopher Eccleston series.
I had my unvoiced doubts about Billie Piper, a former pop star, considering the somewhat dire Bonnie Langford in the past but she is a great strength to the series. I, for one, will trust RTD as one who has proved his judgement to be incredibily good.

Sadly, I think the fact that four million people who were watching when the show "debuted" had given up by the end should not be taken lightly. When series two begins it'll be lucky to get 6.91 m for any episode. By the end of series 2, we're looking at 4 or 5 million tops.

There were some very warm days near the end of the run and even rating winners like "Casualty" suffered terribly on those days, they were still excellent figures considering.

Sadly, I think the fact that four million people who were watching when the show "debuted" had given up by the end should not be taken lightly. Ratings can be varied for many reasons, and as Mark indicates, have to be taken in context of how other programmes performed that evening - and as such, they have been consitantly excellent. Of more importance are the Audience Share and AI figures, which for this season have been through the roof. No wonder the BBC is delighted. Richard

Interesting points gentlemen....do you think the figures would have increased if Eccleston stayed?...I think more old foes should return.....The master perhaps?.....Russell must have been out of his tiny mind to kill off the daleks......
