...yet so far. This post from this board's own moderator Paul Vanezis on the RT Forum just seemed too good not to share here. As everyone gets terribly frantic about unlikely rumours and possible finds it might be worth taking a leaf out of Paul's book and being a little more relaxed about it all "The Sony CV 2000 came out in 1965. The results were about the same as VHS and the quality is pretty good. The machine has been loaned to us complete with around 10 tapes recorded mainly from ITV. One recording was taping ITV at the same time as an episode of 'Fury from the Deep' was being broadcast! Never mind." Cheers Stuart

Ah... if only someone had switched channels... Still... again we have confirmation that people did have VT machines at the time and were taping programs they enjoyed. Hopefully that will include Doctor Who, and hopefully some of those tapes survive and will find their way back to the BBC. It's a long shot, but we can all hope, can't we?

I remember reading online about one of the Steves finding a old recording of DW once. Only it was an episode in the archives. He did find some Moon landing footage, though.

Yeah, I think you're right. If I remember correctly the recording was of "The Space Pirates" episode two. This may be the basis behind the currently thought that someone called Bernie may have VT episode/s of this serial. Behind each myth is a grain of sand... unfortunately this may be the only grain there is...?

He's an ex ABC employee and also a film collector with one of the biggest film collections in Australia, if he has any episodes of the Space Pirates, they will be on 16mm.

No one said that to the best of my knowledge. What I was referring to was a story posted on the web address listed above (thx Wright Blan) detailing the finding of "The Space Pirates": 2 on videotape along with some footage of the Moon landing that the BBC were looking for. I suggested that this MAY have been a source for the Bernie story in a separate sentence. I suspect you may have read these two sentences together - thus taking both out of context. I was referring to neither: your Bernie Hill's 16mm film collection nor; that Bernie Hill was the name of the character who had VT'ed the episode back in '69. Sorry if any confusion arising from this hurt your feelings.

That's who I thought you were talking about in the first place.

"Infamous"? Hmmm... why do you say that?
The guy I was referring to was the video enthusiast in the UK that you pointed to in your last post.
As I suggested last time I had an idea that the "Bernie" story may have had it's genesis with this event.
I have also re-read the begining of the "Space Pirates" thread. I initially surmised that whomever reported on the young guy enquiring about early "Who" may have been unconsciously referring to the earlier story and correlating this with a (possibly) unsubstantiated claim.
I would love to be able to get as excited about this news as you all obviously are. However, hearing, getting excited about and following many such rumours such since the late eighties I have become a bit of a cynic regarding such matters. Many would deem this understandable...
Nevertheless, I wish all concerned the very best of luck investigating the alleged existence of these episodes. It seems now is the hour for yet another generation of enthusiastic "episode hunters" to take up the gauntlet.

Trust me, I didn't remember the man from the article I had mentioned was named Bernie. But man, what a freaking coincidence the whole thing has turned into!

Yeah - curiouser and curiouser...
I'm not sure if the other guy is called Bernie though. Just thought several pieces of misinformation from various sources had gelled into a new story...
If it's any consolation I'm hoping for some closure to this thread too.

Me too - not least because it seems to be spreading into every other thread, turning them all into Space Pirates discussions too Regards Stuart

Yeah, you're telling me...
Would someone in Australia PLEASE get off their chuff, hassle the hell out of Uncle Bernie, the ABC et al. and return the bluddy Space Pirates to the BBC?
Once this is done we may all get some peace. Thanks :-)

Serriously,
But maybe this Space Pirates thread is just another false fan created rumor?
