Actually, I'd also like to make a special mention of Andrew Pixleys' exhaustive booklet accompanying the DVD set... its excellent and coupled with the restoration team work, is an object lesson in how all TV archive DVD projects should be tackled! BAZ

I was considering buying this, and what I want to know is...does ANY audio material from the missing episodes exist(even poor-quality audio "clips") ?

Hello Baz Actually, I'd also like to make a special mention of Andrew Pixleys' exhaustive booklet accompanying the DVD set... its excellent and coupled with the restoration team work, is an object lesson in how all TV archive DVD projects should be tackled! That's extremely kind of you. I was so pleased that with the "Quatermass" booklet (and indeed the others in the series) that BBC Worldwide was prepared to go the distance with something a bit more than with other releases. It really is a pleasure when a company such as this or Network will go the extra mile. Glad you liked it. Many thanks indeed for your kind words. All the best Andrew

What would have been the price of a tape recorder in those days? so there is a slim chance and there's probably the odd off screen film clip, but who knows, by the way there is a rumour that end of episodes were TR'd so that they could be used in the reprise, unfortunatly they just re-enacted the climax of the previous episode, so no recording.

I wasn't aware that there were any tape recorders available on the consumer market in 1953. Can anyone elucidate?

Interesting. I bet you would have to have been an eccentric millionaire to have one of these domestically though

It's a shame that the PDF scripts on the first disc are almost completely illegible...

I seem to recall that a complete script book for this has been published. I cant be bothered to go and look for mine, but I think it was a penguin book from maybe 59 or 60. You can probably find a copy on ebay. I dont know how much it's worth. Actually just had a look on abebooks out of curiousity and they are selling it for a tenner

I got this on DVD a few years ago & really enjoyed it.
My Dad have remember how they would be the talk of the school on a monday morning.
Nigel Kneale's adaptation of 1984 was on BBC4 a few years ago, have there been any plans to release that.
