surely they were recorded especially for the tv shows ?? They were indeed. There are numerous script alterations made for the "Telegoons" versions. In that case it should be easy to tell if The Ascent Of Mount Everest (28/4/53) - 14'55" is a Goon Show or a Telegoons soundtrack. A Goon Show would have audience laughter whereas I assume a Telegoons wouldn't.

Andrew, As you suggested in the other Goons tread on here, I sent the BBC an email, via the contact section on the Treasure hunt page, about my Goons collection, which includes The Hastings Flyer-Robbed, but I havn't had any response. Can you suggest any other way of getting in touch with someone who might take notice? Thanks Peter Contact the GSPS (Goon Show Preservation Society). They care, the BBC doesn't.

Can you suggest any other way of getting in touch with someone who might take notice? I will draw it to somebody's attention. But these things often take a long, long time to get the wheels in motion. I believe that the BBC have a copy of "The Hastings Flyer - Robbed" already - but let's try to make sure .... All the best Andrew

It opens with the voice of the then announcer Andrew Timothy:- Andrew Timothy- The most electrifying moment is here with the dramatic message flashed to London; the message read "Everest Conquered". Spike- "Everest Conquered" which can only mean one thing- Everest has been conquered. The 15 minutes has audience laughter etc.

Hi Gary I haven't received THAT phone call as yet!! I spoke to the relevent people and it seemed that - yes - they were aware of the material you mentionned (and in fact have broadcast parts of it in recent years). I passed on your contact details in case they wanted to talk to you further ... but I know things have been very, *very* hectic of late. Sorry if nobody has got back to you. All the best Andrew

does it just cut off mid-show? No, it ends with the usual credits and music. There's no Max Geldray or Ray Ellington bits although at the point where Ellington is introduced it sounds as though whoever recorded it just switched off their tape recorder, restarting it after Ray had finished crooning. Without a script to compare to, it's difficult to work out where the missing 15 minutes has gone!

The way I read the BBC's trasure hunt page, all the Goon Shows exist, but some in shortened versions. from www.bbc.co.uk/cult/treasurehunt/missing/goons.shtmlBut I keep reading in forums like this that there are missing shows. Someone please explain! If the shows are completely lost the BBC's page needs rewording ASAP.

But I keep reading in forums like this that there are missing shows. Someone please explain! If the shows are completely lost the BBC's page needs rewording ASAP. This is what exists. Series 1 (1951) - no episodes exist but a very short clip of episode 9 exists in the film "London Entertains". Series 2 (1952) - 2 episodes exist Series 3 (1952/53) no episodes exist Series 4 (1954/54) - 9 episodes exist, plus a 2 minute extract of The Giant Bombardon. Series 5 (1954/55) - all exist Series 6 (1955/56) - all exist except 8.12.55 the missing xmas parcel (special) Series 7-10 - all exist Among those existing episodes there are some that only exist in an edited form, but I'm not overly concerned about those, I'm more bothered about those that don't exist at all. I keep finding other series 4 episodes but every time it's because some idiot has mislabelled a "vintage goons" episode.

Hi!
newish here, so hello to you all.
just to say that following this thread, I've tracked down a copy of "The Ascent of Mount Everest" via much the same sources as Wooders did, and the news would appear to be good.
it's an excerpt from a radio show alright, very very acoustic-sounding (if you've heard the two surviving episodes of "The Crazy People" you'll know the score).
runs for about fourteen and a half minutes, so there's a very large chunk of it missing... but Andrew Timothy is definitely the announcer, and since the end credits are present and correct "Tim" is heard to credit the producer as Peter Eton - who definitely produced that particular season.
a definite discovery, so far as I can see!

Did that list include the "full set of reel-to-reel 1950's off-air tapes" that the Goons Show preservation Sociey say they have copies of? Or have those not been factored in yet? www.thegoonshow.org.uk/page10.htmlThe implication is that this is all the missing shows. Any info on whether this is the case? What is the quality like?

It depends how old that information is. My list is correct up until a couple of years ago. I've not heard any news about any substantial finds recently.

I don't want to tread on his toes, and since he made the discovery...
