Andreas, thank you for the insight and translation, I am very grateful. Do you know if any of the other "Song for Europe" shows (UK) exist from '70 or '72 or '74? I believe these are missing from UK archives too. Ray, I am sorry, I don't know much about it. All I have are some clips from the preview shows from 1971 to 1977 (including New Seekers from 1972 and Cliff Richard from 1973).

Cliff recorded 3 colour series of 'It's Cliff Richard' for the BBC in 1970, 1971 and 1972: 40 episodes in total of which only one is known to survive - the 5th show from the 1st series broadcast on 31st January 1970. That's the one that includes Mary Hopkin's 'Early In The Morning Of Your Life.'
However a ropey video recording of part of show 12 from this 1st series (21st March 1970) was sent to me about 15 years ago (origin unknown) which gives hope that at least one of the episodes survives in private hands. The 8 minute colour clip includes Cliff's opening performance of “On The Beach” and the show's finale - a rock ‘n’ roll medley, comprising 'Rip It Up/ See You Later Alligator/ All Shook Up/Rock Around the Clock/Peggy Sue/ Razzle Dazzle' .
I did speak to Cliff's now retired manager David Bryce about all of Cliff's series, and he said none of the 3 series sold abroad. That took me by surprise at the time, considering Cliff was a well-established star by 1970 with a huge fanbase in Europe. I've covered this topic extensively before if anyone wants to back-search. All the songs posters suggested could be from the lost shows - all plucked from youtube of course- turned out to be from Cliff's August Bank Holiday Specials from '70 & '71, and 'Cliff in Scandinavia' (Oct.70) which do survive at the BBC. There was also a belated 6 part series which aired in 1974. These too survive.
Paul Vanezis, if you're reading this, can you send me a quick email please.

Andreas, Paul, thank you for your posts.
Paul - It's great news that even a bad quality copy of 21/03/70 exists, and I don't think this was known about publicly!
Andreas - are the '72 or '74 'Song for Europe' clips on youtube at all?

WOW! Thank you Gordon (like the song4europe site, by the way, which I have credited earlier in the thread). The exact show dates, I think?
New Seekers (It's Cliff) 12/02/72 ONJ (Clunk Click) 02/03/74
Both believed wiped....

Thanks for the compliment on my songs4europe.com website, which you kindly referred to earlier.
The preview for Olivia Newton John's Long Live Love was actually taken from the Clunk-Click edition of 23rd February, 1974. (Also missing).
The Clunk-Click edition of 2nd March only partially exists in the BBC archives, with the bulk of the show surviving but the cut to the Song For Europe results is missing, ie the rest of the show was pre-recorded and the results were "dropped in" nearer the time of broadcast.

There was something on film which I beleive is an It's Cliff 1971 special a segment of which was posted on YouTube.
Also from 1971 (I think) is a film insert of a wedding sketch featuring Olivia Newton John and Cliff. It is a pity those 1971 ones with Olivia went as those seem to be the ones I recall best from the time.
Think my other regret is that no 1970 edition featuring 'Goodbye Sam hello Samantha' exists. The song amused me at the time. Rumours have it there's an overseas use TOTP clip for that.
There is a clip of Cliff c. 1970 on an existing 'Ask Aspel' but it seems to hail from an imported broadcast shown that year. Cliff sings 'Day I met Marie'. Nice clip though.

As Paul mentioned earlier I am also suprised none of Cliff's shows from the early 70's were sold to Europe as he was a well established artist by then with a large European fanbase.
If these shows were still available I am sure the BBC would have made excellent sales on a DVD release.
BBC's management must have been very weak in the early 70's considering the material that was junked coupled with BBC shows which should have been offered for sale oversees which were not offered.
Once again it appears to be music related shows that did not escape the tape wiping cull!!

It's Cliff, missing 43 from44 episodes. do old reel tape audio recordings exist in private hands for all these series, I know that I partially recorded some of these shows myself, many of Cliff's 'one-off' songs with guests particularly, Marvin, Welch and Farrar songs such as 'Mr. Sun' and 'Paperback writer' are truly exceptional. also Cliffs duet with Clodagh Rodgers of 'Reach out' is truly remarkable.
