Thanks for the link. Very nice to see a guide such as this finally published. However, I was going to ask if the pre-1977 listings of non-existing shows featured the acts in order of appearance. Looking at the sample pages I guess the answer is no. Is this kind of information not available in the written archives?

cheers for that.
the info is in correct order when it is found "correct" in pas/b (produced as seen) records.
many of these sheets are missing, and in some cases we have had to make educated guesses.

You can get running orders of the editions from Caversham by accessing the camera scripts (rather than the PasBs, which just give an out-of-sequence listing of the content). I gathered a lot of this info myself from the early days when at Caversham a few years back. You should have asked me, chaps - I could probably have helped with running orders for some of the early editions!

The camera scripts would be for what was recorded for an edition of TOTP (if not live) and in some cases might feature bits which were dropped from the final show. The PasCs, being (amongst other things) guides to the music rights used, should be as per the finished item.

So if the information in the book is incorrect, refering to the era of 1964 to 1977 where due to wiped editions etc, the line-up orders are guess work, if they are found to be misleading or incorrect, will we be able to sue under the trades descpitions act!!

I've just been glancing thru my copy, and the book seems a good enough guide to the contents of the TOTP editions. Where it falls down is in being a guide to what exists - it's a disaster in that regard.
And why are there notes attached to some entries which seem to be only relevant to somebody's private VHS collection. There's stuff like "bad copy", "see other tape" and stuff like that.
And what the hell does "TOTP real audio" mean next to some entires?

TOTP real audio means that some perf's exist as a Real Audio file from that edition
sorry. notes should have been lifted, no idea why they haven't. grrr.
also, my own database is colour coded, and indicates what actually exists. and a colour coding would have been a good idea for this book.
