You are right Rumbers!
At least they would stand a chance then.
My fear is that they are stateside bound; there are avid collectors over there.

Hi Kevin, i would rather they did go back to the BBC than in the hands of a private collector where they would disappear into obscurity. We're assuming that it is actually the BBC who've been in contact. I wouldn't be suprised if it's a collector trying to pull a fast one. There will also be trolls that will bid the price up for the hell of it, assuming that a large bid is in place and that they have no real chance of getting the winning bid anyway. They'll just enjoy costing someone lots of money. As we all know, tv fandom attracts some very screwed up, unhappy people. I wish Chris and Kaleidoscope all the best in their endeavours although I fear that the inevitable publicity a sale like this generates will make this the ebay closing price of the century. We'll have to be very vigilant for copycat scams after this one. Here's hoping for a positive outcome

Some excellent comments Tim.
A warning to all. I came across a character last year who was dubbing supposedly lost stuff onto old reel to reel.
He was then passing them off as real, made by a mythical Uncle.
Boy did that Uncle get around! He was in America one month, Germany the next, then in the uk.
He also borrowed a tardis as the chronology of his tape was something like 63 64, 63!

I came across a character last year who was dubbing supposedly lost stuff onto old reel to reel. In a moment of stupidity, I still can't believe I made this mistake as I'm usually very scam savvy, but I got ripped off by that character too. I didn't pay enough attention to the wording and bid in haste. It's all written between the lines

No problem!
I'll probably be shot down in flames for saying this but how about a sweepstake (all for fun of course) on how high these tapes will go.
Lights the blue torchpaper and scuttles away as imaginary objects are thrown at him....

Something about the packaging seems odd.
Do you notice the picture on one of them? They look like audio reel to reels that have paper plastered over them.
Any experts know what kind of packaging they would have had in 72?

Could be he has cohorts in the wings trying to pump up the price. He need have no fear. These will rocket in closing minutes. Kevin lots of pressure on tomorrow with emotions going haywire. Bottom line is these tapes are probably genuine (2 tapes lent to BBC in 2000 proved genuine although not broadcast quality.) I would still like KAL to pay a few thousand for these. I have clear direct line audios of all the missing 'Its Cliff Richard' shows in this auction, so if the sound is below parr on the tapes im only to keen to offer mine in return. That sorted it really comes down to picture quality. I think its well worth the gamble myself. Good luck guys for tomorrow night. Be bold.
