Two editions of "Jazz Goes to College" survive as telerecordings - Tubby Hayes (29/12/66) and Stan Getz Quartet (11/7/67).
There are four entries on Infax for "Jazz Scene" - 18/11/69 and 26/12/69, plus two with no tx date - one seems to be inserts, the other a compilation. I seem to remember trying to track down tx dates for them, but they're on my ever-lengthening 'to do' list... All four editions are colour VT.
What's in the compilation edition and the inserts, Andrew? Kal lists the comp as being 1971 but untransmitted in that form. What was the reason for making it? Was it intended for broadcast or just to select certain clips for keeping? Does it have credits / is it a properly compiled item or just a reel of clips? Just curious to know, that's all.
The dates you give above do seem to be the tx dates according to Kal. The earlier of the two features Cleo Laine and John Dankworth while the latter features Miles Davis amongst others in a preview of the new series (a clip of this performance was used in a Late Show tribute to Davis in 1991). Were the acts in this edition featured again later on in larger chunks, do you know?
With regard to Jazz Goes To College, which was mentioned earlier, are these two editions comparitively recent finds? I didn't know any survived of that series.
CUE LARGE LIST OF BBC JAZZ PROGRAMMES: (Sorry if the formatting has gone to pot - hopefully you can make head or tail of it... )
NB: THIS OF COURSE ISN’T ALL THE JAZZ PROGRAMMES MADE BY THE BBC – IT’S SOME OF THE MAIN ONES, AND ALL THE ONES THAT START WITH THE WORD ‘JAZZ’ BETWEEN 1965 AND 1976… (AS IT'S PARTLY BASED ON THE ARCHIVE'S CARD INDEX!) (ANY LATER AND I WOULD HAVE TO DO “JAZZ FROM MONTREUX”…)
