Does anyone remember the series D.J Heaven which was shown in the early 90's on BBC 2? Each week it featured a different radio 1 DJ and it showed TOTP's clips with that DJ introducing the tracks. I managed to get hold of the whole series on e-bay, but couldn't understand why it only ran for 5 weeks with the last one on Simon Bates. Has anyone got any info on this great series that was cut off in it's prime?

No, it was DLT, James Saville OBE, Tony Blackburn, John Peel and Simon Bates. They should do another series as they missed so many out. I suppose they didn't have enough material to make a show with some of them as most 60's and early 70's material is wiped! Fluff Freeman for example.

It could have gone on to another series, yes. The same goes for Sounds Of The Sixties, as (despite some stuff being recovered just before it was made) there is most certainly enough material in the BBC archive that is to this day unseen of '60s pop acts since original transmission to make up another 10 editions. They could still do it, in fact.

Laurence, give us a flavour of the archive stuff which is yet to be transmitted. Anything by The Love Affair or Marmalade?

Even the elusive Pickettywitch surviving performances from 1970 could get an airing at last!

Maybe i shouldn`t have added the 's' to performance. Sorry to say that as far as i know only "That Same Old Feeling" exists in B&W from February 1970. I`ve never seen that performance as about 2 years ago it was due to be shown on TOTP2 and got pulled at the last minute for some reason. A great shame as i was looking forward to seeing that. Other than that, the only known surviving performance featuring Polly Brown from the group is The Sweet Dreams performance of the ABBA song "Honey Honey" from the 8/8/74 edition of TOTP. Sorry to mislead you Stephen.

As far as I know, it hasn't ben repeasted on TOTP2 or anything though.

Can't recall anything by Love Affair (Andrew Martin will probably be able to tell you if anything by them exists at the BBC though - i'd be interested to know myself). There is a surviving Beat Club appearance for Everlasting Love though. There is a lot of '60s / early '70s pop footage from many light entertainment shows (e.g. Bobbie Gentry, Julie Felix, Lulu, Young Generation show etc etc) featuring guest groups in the BBC archive. Appearances by The Hollies, Marmalade, Blue Mink, Manfred Mann, Donovan and lots more (some in colour). No idea why it hasn't been utilised up till now. It's great stuff and deserves to be seen. It's no wonder not many people know about it though!

There were in fact 6 editions of DJ Heaven, the 5 you mentioned and a final one featuring Mike Read. I have the whole series on tape (soon to be transferred to DVD). Shame there wasn't another series.............

Most of the clips in the Mike Read edition were from one show, if memory serves. I always thought it strange the series was never repeated, even as a schedule filler.
