Hi Kev, I was wondering if you could help me please? I have a query regarding the tv show ... Record Breakers14/4/78Scot Linda Lewis recording Woman Overboard comes from tvpopdiaries, did you get that information from a Scottish newspaper? I have checked the BBC for 14/4/78 just in case this was an episode of Roy Castle's Record Breakers and there was no Record Breakers on that day, either on BBC1 or BBC2. I have checked Thames Television which as 14/4/78 was a Friday transmitted up to 7pm and there was no sign of this show, after 7pm LWT took over transmitting for the weekend and there is no sign of Record Breakers on LWT for 14/4/78. So I guess it was just shown by STV ? Which publication this entry for the 14/4/78 Record Breakers show came from, as I cannot locate it in any Scottish newspaper or music magazine? Thanks William

Linda Lewis' "Woman Overboard LP was released on 15th April, 1977 so it might perhaps be worth checking 14/4/77?

Dear all, Sorry to take so long in getting back to you regarding this one. Thanks for spotting it! Scottish TV's 'The Record Breakers' has not been listed in any newspaper I've seen, so I must have seen it in one of the music papers. So I've been through everything from that era and I also came up with nothing. So I must have seen it mentioned in The Stage which I no longer have access to. I did have pdfs of all the relevant pages from 1955 - 1979, but I lost them! I 'recovered' them, but they're useless. However, I noticed that there was a show called 'The Record Makers' broadcast by Scottish in June 1978, so maybe The Record Breakers was a pilot version? The BBC kids show The Record Breakers began broadcasting in 1972, so I can't understand why Scottish would use the same name. I'll remove the two entries for The Record Breakers - Lena Zavaroni 11th April 1978 and Linda Lewis 14th April 1978 from the 1978 diary, so there's one less for you to find! news.google.com/newspapers is a good research tool - I found the Glasgow Herald and the Glasgow Evening Times there. I'm sure there are others to be found on line too. Thanks once again!

Hi William,
I think again this was a case of me taking The Stage reference at its word! I didn't have access to the Glasgow Herald / Evening Times then, so there was nothing to double check against. So I'll remove that reference and also the one for 2nd December 1978. I'll have to go through Scotttish/Grampian references and now double check them with those newspapers. Most of the newspapers I have pdfs of (Mirror / Mail etc) would be from the south and cut off at the Midlands. The Times was better at looking at the whole of ITV, but I don't have complete runs for each year.
It's a shame the band never made it, they had two TV concerts shown - So It Goes Concerts and Rock Goes To College, plus Whistle Test. Oh well (part one)
Cheers William!

Hi Tony,
21 Stars In The West 7/10/74
HTV Anita Harris unconfirmed as existing or missing?
Just to let you and everyone know, that, according to several entries in the British Newspaper Archive,
Stars In The West was a light-hearted quiz show with Alan Taylor in the chair and the contestants have to guess who said that.
The stars such as Anita Harris took part, although I am unable to say what they did, perhaps they said that?
As this is not a Missing Pop Show I will reduce the thread title to Another 30 Pop Shows Missing?

Dear William, Once again, apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I've been filling in so much new info courtesy of Kevin Mulrenan and Disc & Music Echo recently. Well for a kick off I might have got the name of the show wrong! It's 'The Music Goes Round and Around' in The Times but 'The Music Goes Round and Round' in The Daily Mirror which are my sources for this one. The one show above all others I was trying to find info on was broadcast by Southern (my area) on Saturday 13th August 1977, just a few days before the death of Elvis. It was a Juke Box Jury type show where all the acts involved talked about each others new records. It was hosted by Michael Aspel and had The Damned, Sandie Shaw and Liverpool Express. I couldn't remember the tile, it was not listed in any listings magazine or newspaper, which suggests it was a pilot shown as a replacement at short notice, probably replacing The Muppets. I remember a DJ on Radio Caroline the following day mentioning it and how bad it was. The Damned track Stretcher Case Baby exists on a Damned DVD bootleg, but they credit it as April, not August. But here it is, probably from a home video www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgR8A8_YG1E The show was apparently called Blast Off and there are a few frames of Aspel and someone else at the beginning. It's only taken forty two years to see it again! The Damned let off air rifles in the studio, so got a ban! Is this missing?
