Well, it`s not TOTP , but yesterday at my brother-in-laws, we were clearing out his house as he is moving on the 15th after 23 years at this particular house and we found his old reel to reel tape machine. A tape was already on the machine so i asked him to plug it in and play it. Side one was basically all mid sixties records like The Beatles and various other stuff from records that he`d recorded at the time, but side 2 was far more interesting. It was a Pick Of The Pops top 20 from February 1972. As we only had minimal time and things to do, he quickly played snippets from the first side and the second side, but let the tape run from "Brand New Key" by Melanie (#14 that week) right up to the #1 which that week was Chicory Tip with "Son Of My Father" having it`s first week at the top after climbing from #2. At first he`d taken out the 'Fluff' dj links, but let them run right from the #5 up to the #1 with full 'Fluff' links with the exception of the chart rundown ( must have been his tea time!!). I asked him if he had any more tapes and he thought he had about 5 in total, all full of stuff from 1964 to around 1976 and he thinks he may have some more chart stuff and even TOTP audio stuff from that era, but as he and his wife have been packing all the small items over the last week, he thinks the other tapes are already boxed up somewhere. After he moves in and settles in his new home on Hayling Island, he has said i can come round and go through all his tapes with him to see what turns up. After hearing the top 5 of that week right through and checking the week from my chart book which turned out to be w/e 19/2/72, and bearing in mind the charts in those days were announced on a Tuesday and the w/e date being a Saturday, then he must have recorded it on the 20/2/72. I was so chuffed at hearing that old Pick Of The Pops, i'm just chomping at the bit to hear more. I will let you know what turns up in due course.

That's a great find, Keith (shame most of Fluff's links are edited out though).
Hope your brother-in-law manages to uncover some rare TOTP audio!

That's a great find, Keith (shame most of Fluff's links are edited out though). Hope your brother-in-law manages to uncover some rare TOTP audio! the dj links thing is very common, probably the same with the totps audio, but even audio would be good as the songs were often re-recorded.

Are there any thing available on totps of THE WHO 60S APPEARENCES 1965-67 on dvd? complete shows or complimations? Cheers john.b.. Sadly, and predictably, theres not a scrap of footage of The Who on TOTP during this period. There are some priceless pictures of some of these performances in the Andy Neill and Matt Kent book, "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere" and theres a great pic of the "I Can See For Miles" performance where they dressed as rockers. The earliest TOTP footage in existence of The Who is "The Seeker" from 1970, though a December 1969 performance of "I Can See For Miles" opened the "Pop Goes The Sixties" show which also exists.

Wow! I didn't know the earlier clips existed! To add to my earlier entry I forgot the famous film clip for "Happy Jack" which was originally made for TOTP... I recall it was filmed on the Monday and broadcast that Thursday and has gone on to become a very well known clip.
And Gaz - I've explored your site several times and the pics you have unearthed are absolutely amazing! Keep up the great work! Love the Freda Payne pic and the 1964 backtage pic with Jimmy Savile is a fascinating find as is The Hollies "Jennifer Eccles" appearance!

Gary's TOTP picture board is superb and worth a visit. A tiny point that the picture of Marc Bolan and T Rex is not of a Ride a White Swan but 'The Groover' 3 years later.

Alan

;)Thanx for replies to all .I have recently obtained a who video anthology 65-69 DvD which I obtained from ebay, Unfortunatley no totps footage but has some very rare (for me )b+w/ colour footage of the band on variuos british +euro pop shows from this period (whole scene going 1966 ,pop goes the 60s ,r,s,go ,popside, beat club ,smothers bros 67 show, ect.)The quality ranges from average to very good considering some footage is 40 years old. I have noticed that there is another dvd available THE WHO VINTAGE PROMOS which comes from U.S.A I am trying to find more about it (maybe this has some totps performances you never know whats out there do you? Regards to all John.B
