Hi guys,
I've seen hours of Hollies stuff from here and there. As far as I can tell the only TOPTP stuff that exists are:
JUST ONE LOOK HEY WILLY (via Disco) GASOLINE ALLEY BRED THE DAY CURLY BILLY SHOT DOWN CRAZY SAM MCGEE HE AINT HEAVY (A few from '88)
I'm really interested in more unusual stuff like live performances or concert style appearences on other BBC shows.
For example in 1969 The Hollies did a live special with the BBC orchestra. Clips do turn up but I wonder if the BBC holds a complete copy of the show, or if anybody here has seen it.
Does Survival of the Fittest from TOTP survive anywhere? or the Colour Me Pop episode or anything else live from the '60s and '70s, even audio only?
I have seen lots of promos and interesting things from elsewhere like mini Beat Beat Beat, Midnight Special and Beat Club performances that are very impressive. Also '70s TV concerts. Some of this is very poor in quality though, many generations from somebody's VHS.
Is anyone else interested in The Hollies?
Micheal

Yeah the Hollies are cool.
There is a lot of there stuff around.
They did a lot of pop promos in the 60's and appeared on many European shows.

They also performed their "Holliedaze" medley on TOTP in 1981.
Oh, and "The Air That I Breathe" from TOTP exists in some private collections but only in black & white.

He Ain't Heavy is also on 'Pop Goes The 60's', but due to the female German co-presenter yapping in the middle, it appears it cannot be used in isolation outside POP60's, unless anybody knows different.

Micheal Hi Michael, Sorry Suzanne (from TX 27/2/69 ep) survives (seen on 'Sounds of the Sixties' and often since on BBC 2) The Hollies In Concert special (TX 3/5/69) also survives complete in the BBC archive. The Beatles' last appearance on TOTP from 1966 though not surviving officially and never turning up via the collectors' video trading circuit allegedly survives in private hands as a 16mm telerecording. This ep also features The Hollies performing 'Bus Stop' so there is a chance this may turn up one day. The Colour Me Pop/Late Night Line Up special (TX: 7/9/68) is gone. However, can anyone please check their KAL guides if the following eps survive of - Blue Peter: TX 17/2/64 Blue Peter: TX 24/6/65 Crackerjack: TX 23/10/64 Crackerjack: TX 05/03/65 Crackerjack: TX 15/10/65 Crackerjack: TX 28/01/66 Thanks heaps LD

There is also Look Through Any Window from the London Palladium Show (1965) existing plus a couple of Hollies appearances surviving on shows like Bobbie Gentry (1968) and Julie Felix (1970), both in colour. In addition, there is also a colour clip of The Air That I Breathe surviving (not sure from which show - possibly German TV, but a snippet from this was used in one of Ch.4's Top 100 shows recently).
As regards Blue Peter, the 24/6/65 edition seems to survive, according to Kal, but those other dates didn't seem to have editions transmitted on them (although for the dates near to either side of them, the editions generally seem to survive).

Has anyone seen the In Concert special? Apparently it was on ebay a while back, would love to know.
The London Palladium Look Through Any Window is pretty impressive.
Doesn anyone know any source for any other Hollies stuff? particularly the In Concert?

there's also "Jennifer eccles " from "Beat Club" and three live songs circa early 67 from Beat Beat Beat (as far as I remember, these are Bus Stop, Stop Stop Stop and Ona carousel) also, there's a colour version of "Carrie Anne" from a American TV: possibly Ed Sullivan?

Air is from the Russell Harty show. Are you sure? It didn't look like RH at all; more like a studio insert for something.

Hi Laurence, Thanks for the info on the 24/6/65 BP show surviving. Those other dates will definitely be correct for TX as I've taken them from the Caversham PasBs (unless I've made a typo). All the eps I listed include Hollies performances. Do the KAL guides list recording dates or TX dates generally? Cheers LD

I misread your listing slightly but i've corrected the info below. Sorry about that.
Blue Peter: 17/2/64: does not exist 24/6/65: film insert only survives Sod's law that those two are missing as quite a few from this period do exist, unlike a lot of shows of the era. Do you know of any other musical acts that appeared on specific '60s Blue Peter editions? It's a shame that the Kal guide doesn't list them alongside editions as i've long wanted to know myself which groups appeared when!
Crackerjack: No specific details for this early period are listed by Kal but as only a handful survive pre-early '70s (7/5/64 is the only one listed as surviving from 1964) , then it's almost certain those editions you ask about are non-existent (at least officially anyway). Sigh, more classic pop history gone...
