Well, the tape has a release date of 1999, according to the link, so I'd assume if the material was genuinely from "TOTP," word would have leaked out by now. Nice thought, though!

Well, pure supposition here (a search at Amazon.co.jpn wasn't terribly edifying, even with their "browse in English" option), but it sound like it could be a compilation of clips, which may include some of the inserts they did specially for TOTP, but I doubt there's anything earth-shattering like the TOTP Paperback Writer / Rain on it. Certainly, by the time Help came out in '65, they'd stopped playing Please Please Me and She Loves You live, so it sounds like a compilation rather than a full show. Apple seem to have copies of quite a few, if not all of the Beatles' extant TV appearances, as well as the promo films they recorded, albeit some in pretty grotty quality, going by Anthology. If this was an officially sanctioned release (any experts on Japanese copyright law out there? ), then these might have been the source...

Apple have copies of all the video and film clips recorded for TV use generally (in generally very good quality and on pristine videotape in cases where that's how the clip was made) but none specifically for TOTP or any other TV show (which would be owned by the TV company who made them).
I suspect that the material referred to is some of the promo material mentioned - has anyone checked fior certain though? May be worth it - you never know.

Sadly, there was nothing from TOTP on this video tape. The songs are mainly sourced from 'A Hard Day's Night' and 'Around the Beatles'--- 'Help!' was taken from a b/w print of 'The Beatles at Shea Stadium'. There's a bit of miscellaneous newsreel and interview footage (ITN, Granada, British Pathe) to further pad it. By the time COVY-5878 was commercially released, they had changed the name of the title to the grammatically twisted 'The Beatles on TV Show in the 60's'!
Best regards, John
