Hi all. On the "Sounds Of The 60s" I noticed there were some 1969 colour studio clips that look like are from TOTP but the titles say "Pop Goes The 60s" and one of them was a Kinks clip which Jimmy Saville introduces. Also to make things weirder there is two Rolling Stones colour studio clips from 1969, one was "Honky Tonk Woman" which was entitled "TOTP" but the other one "Gimme Shelter" is from the exact same studio but is entitled "Pop Goes The 60s". No I was wondering are these 3 clips really from "Pop Goes The 60s" or are they from TOTP? And did Jimmy Saville hosted "Pop Goes The 60s" as well as TOTP?
Cheers Troy

Just to briefly re-cap on stuff here mentioned before, the Marmalade (Ob-La-Di) and Stones (Honky Tonk W.) are from TOTP '69, the former was re-used in Pop Goes... Gimme Shelter - while shot at same time as H.Tonk - was for Pop Goes.

Cheers Troy Pop goes the 60's was transmitted on 31/12/69 and was presented by Jimmy Saville and a German presenter called Alfier. The show had a Top of the Pops format and played all the big hits of the 60's. The programme was made by the B.B.C and German station Z.D.F hence an English and German presenter. The programme was shown a few years back on U.K Arena and I managed to tape a copy of it. Well worth seeing.

Did the 'Pop Goes the 60's' program close with a couple of songs from the Beatles Shea Stadium concert?
Thanks, John

Dear Pete Back in 69 Dusty Springfield was listed as performing on the show. Every edition I've seen of "Pop" omits her. The longest edition i've seen is 68 mins long. Do you have the FULL 75 min WITH Dusty? Alan Smith

The weird thing is, on youtube there's a clip from the "yesterday" channel - a UK channel - showing the German version of this (it was a coproduction). I wonder why... The version I have features Jimmy Saville talking in English and the German female presenter using her own language. I'm assuming this was the same in both the UK and Germany? Certainly 'Yesterday' channel broadcast this version, though in sadly slightly edited form. Hard to tell! There seem to be slight differences. There was, speaking of offenders, this side by side comparison of rolf harris BBC vs. ZDF. It was in the kaleidoscope presentation vault I believe. It was one or two years later but there were quite a few differences with the presenter(s). The "yesterday" clip on youtube shows Sandie Shaw singing in German for a bit; I don't expect that that was in the BBC version, was it? But yes I am making assumptions here so I could be wrong (about "yesterday" showing the German edition).

Yes, as the same programme was shown in the UK and Germany, Sandie Shaw showed off her language skills and sung in both languages. The BBC version is the same. The Rolf Harris Show (like This Is Tom Jones in the UK/USA for example) had difference performances in UK/Germany. Doesn't mean to say that the same was true of PGTS60s of course. So there is some substantial amount of German in the BBC's version? That song, and the female presenter? I didn't expect that!

But you're certain you haven't somehow ended up with the ZDF edition? It's just that I heared a different summary of the BBC's version. I haven't any at hand here right now so to be honest I can't say for certain. I'm simply surprised because I wouldn't expect sections in German to be of any interest to the British audience.

100% certain. I even have an uncut copy with timecode that was "liberated" from the BBC archives, which includes both English/German introductions and Sandie's English/German songs. Oh I see! But wouldn't that be more like a studio tape with raw footage, that they then used to create two different versions from? How long was it, please? The BBC version was 1 hour 15 minutes, based on genome. But at least it all still exists then, which is what I wanted to know.

Ah wait you mean uncut as in, molesters included, is that it?
(I guess the other reports I got were based on a shorter version or something.)

My archive tape contains the full show (minus Dusty) which runs around 1 hour 10 minutes. And then is followed by a second take of the introduction to the Shadows "Apache" (followed by the same performance).
