I've posted three more of the "Disco" TOTP clips that are missing from the BBC here: www.steve-p.org/pop/missing.htm"Something Tells Me" - Cilla Black "The Wizard" - Uriah Heep "Solid Gold Easy Action" - T Rex and last week the following: "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" - Bobbie Gentry "Little Willy" - Sweet (crap quality, though) "Children Of The Revolution" - T Rex. Hi Steve,
A great selection of clips! What time and channels are 'Disco' and 'Hits A Go Go' on? I've got a motorised satellite system so I can get them all.
Re: Kinks - Autumn Almanac. Interesting that this clip made it's way onto a commercial video release. I wonder if Pye / Polygram / Universal or maybe Castle Communications inherited the clip from some kind of contractual obligation that might have been in place at the time of the performance. Something along the Dave Clark 5 lines (full copy of show must be provided etc)? I suppose the BBC would have documentation somewhere in their vast paperwork archives.
I know someone who used to work at Pye in the sixties. I'll see what I can find out.
I'm probably covering old ground here?

What time and channels are 'Disco' and 'Hits A Go Go' on? I've got a motorised satellite system so I can get them all. "Disco" is on 3sat, which is on the old analogue Astra (19.2E ISTR). The only stuff German TV ever seems to re-show from "HAGG" is 5 (or so) compilation editions called "Remember I", "Remember II" and so forth. These only use stuff from the colour shows, and are highly selective. (Maybe worth recording to see The Family Dogg - who were all clearly completely hatstand - doing "Sympathy") The Hollies and Who clips actually come from a N3 (satellite version of NDR and RB rolled into one) programme called "OPA Oldie Parade" which happened to re-use them. It cracks me up that the presenter rattles on about how HAGG was quite brave in its presentation for the time, but then goes on to show a clip that HAGG borrowed from TOTP rather than a proper HAGG extract. Thanks for posting these clips, Steve.
I've really enjoyed playing them, particularly the Who and Hendrix.
The Hendrix clip is fascinating. I wonder how it has survived? It tantalisingly raises the possibility that the entire episode it comes from may exist.
Bobbie Gentry looks like she raided the entire make-up department of the B.B.C. Scary!
Could you keep up the good work and keep adding new clips?
Cheers
Kev

It tantalisingly raises the possibility that the entire episode it comes from may exist. I doubt it. Look at the end of the extract - it goes all dirty and crackly, indicating the end of a length of film. I reckon the Beeb just sold the Americans that clip - I doubt if lots of other 60's TOTP acts would have made much sense in the US. Well, by accident or design, a lot of those "Disco" clips just happen to be ones that are at the BBC anyway (e.g. Who, Stones, Chicory Tip, Rod Stewart, Sweet etc) but I'll add more. I don't have a full set though - for that it'll require other people here who have the recordings to chip in. I have the space to host the clips - it's just getting them! Matt North, who posts here, came up with The Who doing 5:15, and I'll put that up soon. I can't get my software to take it in at the moment - but WMP manages to play it OK! Steve

Just a thought on the source of that Hollies clip and a rather long shot at that. The typeface used at the start of the clip is the same as that used by Granada for 'Nearest & Dearest.' If my memory serves me correctly, Sorry Suzanne was a hit in 1969? Around the same time Granada were producing 'Nearest & Dearest'....just a thought. Of course the typeface might just have been in vogue at the time

TOTP never had onscreen titles until 1982
sometimes the bad name in the centre in groovy writing
sounds like Sorry Suzanne is sourced from Sounds of the 60's

No, the writing was superimposed on the original vt that the telerecording was struck from. It's not from 'Sounds Of The Sixties' as I've not seen this clip before. I'm not au fait with Granada's pop programming output from 1969, but assuming it is Granada, maybe it's a teatime kids programme guest appearance? You never know what lies within that great warehouse of interesting tv (aka the Granada archive.)
