Not that they were actually lost, but a number of film inserts / promos recorded specificly for TOTP have been brought to the attention of the TOTP2 team.
They've been sat in the BBC Archives for some time - mainly on colour 35mm film - but the TOTP2 production team were unaware of them. Laurence Piper and I have gone through the records and Mark Hagen is hoping to get them telecined ready for use in a future show.
An example of one of the recovered ones is this one:-
Pan's People dressed as cleaners in their traditional one-colour-each dungarees, sweaters and aprons dance round aisles of empty department store to Sly and the Family Stone track "Runnin' Away
or this one:-
Film to accompany David BOWIE song "John, I'm Only Dancing". Shots of four bikers in leather & denim through chemical plant; girl from Pans People in long white dress with gold embroidery running along gantrys, walkways etc. Bikers chase girl who runs across rooftops & twirls round in her long white dress, cape a-flowing

Hi Ed.
This is good news. I'm pretty sure that the Sly & The Family Stone / Pan's People "Runnin' Away" film has been on TOTP2 previously, but have never heard of the "David Bowie" clip. More details please as and when they are available.
All the Best,
Mark

I was personally pleased to see the promos included Blue Minks' Banner Man, which I recall from the original 1971 edition. I could describe the images (which feature Blue Mink) - all this shows up my misspent youth! Roll on an appearance on TOTP2...

Are these those film inserts that Tom Taylor directed? Apparently he owns the rights to the ones he did - do you think it would be worth tracking him down to see if he has copies? I'd love to see the Canned Heat film from 1970 in colour!

I don't have the details to hand right now but I think they were directed by various people (including Tom Taylor). If you check the TOTP database, I have now indicated these as existing from the various shows they were in.
