Hi Laurence,
Can you answer this for me. The FAQ on the TOTP2 site says that details of 8 shows do not exist - which particular shows are these?
Also, I am very interested in how you went about getting all the information together, problems which came up, how (if possible) they were resolved etc etc.
Just looking at the results it's obvious that it was a massive job, although I am sure that only tells part of the story...
All the Best,
Mark

Hi there,
As I did not assemble all the TOTP info myself, i'm not sure of which eight editions are missing. I personally compiled all the data from 1964 up to the mid '70s (and hope to complete the small gap around 1975 / '76 soon) so I feel I can comment on that period fully.
The data comes from BBC written archives documentation and out of that first 12 years, I only found about three editions missing data (all from 1973, although I hope to rectify this at some point as there may be other documentation to help fill these holes).
Do you have any idea what era the missing dates are from? It's possible that the gaps are because there were not editions on a specific date (due to sport coverage, strikes etc). This happened a few times during the first twelve years of the programme, I can vouch for that. But every show that went out during that period (apart from the three I mentioned above) should now be on there.
It was a massive task putting it all together. I am still making amendments / corrections and these will take a bit of time. If anyone has spotted something that is clearly an error, let me know and i'll try to fix it. Generally though, for the era I compiled, I double-checked the data at my end and it was pretty accurate. Due to the sheer volume of info though, errors will (naturally) creep in during the transfer to database, i'm sure .

Hi Lawrence, Cheers for the info. Unfortunately, I don't know what era the missing details are from. The FAQ on the TOTP2 site is not specific on this point; I did previously post a question on the Message Board there but didn't get a reply. I may give it another go, armed with your info. As far as the errors / issues on the Database go, the ones that spring to mind are these: - 10/9/70 edition recorded as 10/8/70
- No record of the other Elton John performance of Daniel which is on the "Very Best of Elton John" video. This is different from the 25/1/73 performance which we saw on TOTP2 a little while ago
- Entries for 27/11/74 (DLT) and 28/11/74 (Paul Burnett). 27/11/74 lists 3 performances which are also present on 28/11/74
No1 is probably a straight typo and can be easily corrected. Any ideas about 2 and 3? Incidentally, 10/9/70 is one of the editions very well presented on the Montages; a clip of the Pans People "Jimmy Mack" routine from this edition was shown on "Digging The Dancing Queens" which seems to indicate that the whole edition is around somewhere.
