Why isn't there a cable/satellite station which broadcasts complete archive episodes of TOTP, like UK Gold used to do?
The reasons that spring to mind are viewing figures and clearance issues. But these don't seem to worry BBC2's TOTP2, which is going strong after ten years.
I mean we can all go 'cyuh, UK Gold's gone to the dogs' etc, but does anyone know any specifics regarding the non-availability of complete TOTPs, and why they are unlikely to surface?

it's a neglected show, no question. totp has very little profile out there apart from the new editions. it's past is invisible. as you say totp2 is running strong. things like Disco get shown endlessly so why not totp given it's seniority as maybe the worlds longest running pop show? i can't take totp2 myself though as i dont want to sit through captions on screen and sarcastic voiceovers etc. i want whole totp editions repeated. there should be a place for it to happen.

I'm right behind you on this issue.
even if the shows were done on a foreign european satellite channel that would be fine also

Because Mike:
There's sod all left before 1976.
The BBC aint interested.
"rights issues" - I donno - I suspect reason 2 probably covers most answers.
Be nice to see the "long" versions they showed on UK Gold sans bloody advert breaks as you say...

There are a number of excellent shows from before that period (most of which were shown on UK Gold in the early 90's). Unfortunately, Noel Edmonds wouldn't give his permission for his surviving editions to be shown;he wanted a rather large repeat fee, apparently.

I wrote to Lisa Opie the MD of UKTV asking why they do not repeat complete TOTP's as they did in the early 90's.
This was at the beginning of April and to date I have not received a reply. When someone who is at the top of an organisation can't be bothered to reply to a polite enquiry I think we all understand how much they care about TOTP's!!!!!
But hey who cares where only TV licence payers.
