Hello. Was just over at the Mausoleum and saw on the forum that along with "Arguments, Arguments" and the recovered Spike one-off (plus Morecambe and Wise et. al), the BBC will be airing a MBW reconstruction of "At Last...". By reconstruction this seems to mean sketches recovered from the compilations, arranged according to the off-air audios (I'm sure there was a quicker way of saying that)? Does that mean intro and linking sequences as well? My question for Dick Fiddy if he's able to is which episode (the main contenders seem to be 2.1 and 2.2) this is. Nice to see the meat slowly reappearing on the bones of a really mistreated series ("A song from the Jack the Ripper"). One of the other knowledgeable types here may further know just what has made it's way back from Australia - a find I only just read about but which apparently happened earlier this year. Any info would be great - cheers!
As to NOBA (does happy jig), I know it seems to greedy to already start dreaming of a further recovery after the recent windfall, but there is, after all, another unidentified episode in the MoTR... perhaps 1/6 with Eric Idle. Finally, to the suggestion a week or so ago on the NOBA strand about combining audio with the silent film from 1/4 to reconstruct the majority of that show, sadly this is not feasible. Of the four known sketches: On the Bus/Canvassing Dracula/Smoking Ad Parody/Pseudolene (Restuarant Sketch), the latter was in studio and thusly wiped. Dracula exists as the show's film centrepiece, as does Smoking (though this a relatively light-weight series of quick filmed gags). The main confusion seems to be "On the Bus". To my understanding, what exists mute is the show's opening sequence of "Not Only..." written on the side of a London Bus, and a brief intro to the Pete and Dud sketch which took place, like all Pete and Duds, on a studio set and was therefore junked. So, for a 45 minute show, this does not form a really significant chunk of the material. As for the soundtracks and whether or not Decca may still have them, I recall reading some years ago that they have joined the many film cannisters that prop up our motorways and man-made mountains.
Sorry to be so depressing,
William
Oh, and the lucky British swine comment regards the Christmas screenings of these comedy gems - rare and belated as I realise they are.
