Thanks for clearing that up, John. So, was Johnny Roadhouse the main fixer for broadcasting bands in Manchester? I bought a snare drum (which I still use) from his shop on Oxford Road when I lived in the north west many years ago.
Thanks also for the revelation about Stan Roderick's nickname, which I had never heard before. I can well understand the mutual respect of the band members - it was the A team. Mind you, Jack's band was a bit special even before the ATV days. The Parlophone 78 of 'The Champ'/'Summertime', featuring Jimmy Deuchar, is a treasured possession of mine.
Talking of the NDO, Alyn Ainsworth went on to run a cracking band at LWT in the 1980s. Harold Fisher tells me that he was a great leader to work for, because if any big stars had a problem with anything musical, he'd take the heat himself, whereas some other leaders would pass the buck and blame one of the band. Harold didn't name and shame them.
