Something worth mentioning here (not missing, but difficult to view in this quality until very recently) is the recent US release of the four 50 mins Ed Sullivan shows featuring the Beatles (I gather there will the UK versions). Instead of the usual treatment old programmes get, these are intact will all adverts and each is sourced from tape (not a Kinescope in sight). As well as the Fab four, you'll also see other British acts, including Morcambe and Wise. The picture quality is often remarkably good. The following week after the last Beatles show, the programme was in colour. Shame they didn't arrange that a bit earlier. All in all, this is a marvellous two disc set.

Yes, I managed to get this myself a while ago (after much hassle - but that's another story!) It's a fantastic set. All the episodes come with original ad breaks and captions and everything. It's fascinating to view this slice of history in it's original context (and on tape too). A pointer to how I like archive releases to be.
The only downside (and it's fairly small admittedly) is the lack of restoration work on the video tapes. They need it here and there and a few chunks are a bit smeary too. A recommended DVD though.

Do you have the exact title of this set (or ISBN)? Sounds like something worth ordering, but I didn't see it at my usual DVD shop - they only had one with the beatles clips (rather than the full shows)....

Seems like this release is now available over here as an import - my HMV had it for £19.99. Just thought people might like to know this and support the release. We want more like it!

I believe that there is actually a PAL R2 release now available, which is probably what you saw (although some larger HMV stores also stock imported music DVDs, so the one you saw may have been an import.)
