Hi all. As a vintage video collector I've obtained a lot of pre-VHS format videos in various form looking for old TV shows.
Anyhow I've recently got a couple of reel-reel videos from a bloke in Queensland whom bought a reel-reel VTR/camera in 1971. He apparently pointed the B&W vidicon camera to the TV set and recorded bits of TV shows. One was a few minutes of "Basil Brush". Now this might have been recorded anytime between 1971 and 1973. So I was wondering if BBC have all the Basil Brush shows or are there some missing from the early years?
Cheers Troy

All of 1968/9 are gone - 3 from 1970, and patchy till 1975.

I made a bit of a mistake. The footage I have only goes for about 17 seconds, not a few minutes.
Anyhow I wonder if that footage I have might be from a missing episode. I'll have to ask BBC. This excerpt is Basil and some bloke singing a song. It was recorded most likely around 1973.
If it is missing footage then I'll have to somehow get a copy out to BBC. I'm unwilling to send the 1/2" B&W reel overseas but will get maybe ABC to transfer it to digital Beta for BBC.

Hi William. Definitely got your email, and just joined up straight after, so here I am ;D.
Anyhow in regards of rare shows I have a lot of Philips VCR cassettes with various shows dating between 1975 and 1984, the earliest stuff being educational programs and college vidicon camera recordings for educational purposes. But the ones from 1978-84 are home recordings, though hard to say whether the shows are the only copies. Some examples are "Dave Allen At Large" recorded 1978, "Barry Humpries Show" recorded about 1979, 50 Years Of ABC recorded 1982, Paul Hogan Show recorded 1981.
The majority of my reel-reels are school stuff except for the two portapack ones containing holiday videos and TV to Camera recordings which that excerpt of Basil Brush was in amongst them. I do also have a VHS copy of early B&W reel-reel footage of Wings tour in Australia which include news reports, Norman Gunston Show, and to my joy Countdown footage!!!
Anyhow I'm still hunting tapes and will find more rare footage in the near future.
Cheers Troy

better and better, this is how things are found do you happen to know of any more contacts we can bring to the forum? what about Richard Diehl in the USA I was in contact a while ago but I don't know if he visits this forum the wings tour footage may be a "missing" find but I don't know the status of dave allen material It would be good to find some 60s pop on domestic video we know it at least did exist from magazine interviews with djs and pop stars from the time

All his early BBC stuff 1968-70 is gone, but the rest from 1971 thankfully exists, would be interested in seeing the 1978 editions though if you wanna trade, the earliest I have is 1983.

A special episode exists from 1970. I heard the BBC were thinking of releasing it on DVD.
