Pioneer must have sold a few laserdisc players, no? Laserdiscs were still released this century...
The digital audio track meant that there were two audio tracks possible. This is the reason why 'commentary tracks' were invented, AFAIK. (Combined with the fact that it was a format for the connaisseur, not for the masses.)
