I get your point Barney, though I wonder how many people at the time managed/chose to watch all ten episodes. By watching it in 25 minute chunks with a whole week in between each chunk, John..!

As I’ve said elsewhere, the thing with these is that they’re *alternative* versions, not replacements for the uncut black and white originals. They’re also very easy to not watch if you find yourselves offended by their very existence… It’s futile to say this, but FFS, if you don’t like the idea, then don’t watch it, there’s really no need to pi55 on the bonfires of people who’ve worked very hard to produce nice things for people who appreciate them. You do have a point about not watching and them being alternative to the original and I get why that would defuse an argument someone was saying about doing it at all. Thing is I like the idea of condensing and updating an old classic for the modern. I just think war games is an odd choice and the condensing will be drastic. There were my obvious alternatives in my opinion. I feel my gripes are constructive rather "new thing different so must be bad"

Wasn't Pertwee cast after Troughton had finished? (or I could be mis-remembering too) So how is there a 'proper' regeneration if none was filmed? Are we looking at deep-fake, or AI? Apparently they're using this short, and frankly wonderful, Youtube video by Jacob Booth. Albeit with some modification*

No, I didn't mean "How did they slog through it?" but more how much did other commitments/family wanting to view the other channel impact on clearing those 10 weeks? With mum and dad, and five sisters, it was always possible that I'd miss some episodes, while healthy outdoor pursuits would have called to some kids, at least. Miss an episode, and that was it; there was no catch-up or video-recorders. We've got the viewing-figures, with the earlier episodes the most-watched, but I wonder what the 'churn' was; how many viewers saw every episode at the time.

Great choice, looking forward to it. Enjoyed the Daleks in Colour immensely.
But it's a bit of a jump. Does this mean we won't get other serials in-between in colour? Dalek invasion earth's an obvious choice in future?

They did an excellent job on the Daleks, as they will TWG, and there's always the B&W original for those who prefer it. These colour versions could gain an new audience who wouldn't normally tolerate B&W TV.

When I last watched The War Games it felt like it could easily lose at least an hour of run time & still keep the important plot points.

War Games (all 10 episodes of it) has to be one of my favourite stories. Patrick Troughton was the Doctor I grew up with, and is still my favourite. I will watch the 90min edit with an open mind, and see what happens. My only gripe is the term 'for a modern audience'. I know RTD now says that he is targeting the 20-30 year demographic (whereas I recall the BBC in the classic days said that it was suitable for ages 7-70), but we're all watching, so aren't we still part of the 'modern audience'? (perhaps most of us are past RTDs target though).

It doesn't mean DIOE may not be an option in years to come, if they continue doing these.

Any idea what this amounts to? He doesn't really say on the interview. Incidentally, my take on the 90-minute version is that it will allow me to share the story with non-Doctor Who fans, such as my wife, who would never consider watching ten episodes. The colour will help too. Richard

Also, I must mention the great colorization job on the 'next 60 years' preview trailer at the end of the Daleks. I loved the red and blue Masterplan Daleks - after all, a red Dalek DID appear on the cover of John Peel's The Mutation of Time novel. Maybe yourself and the team could consider giving the Saucer Pilot Dalek in DIOE a red lick of paint, in homage to the inaccurate painting instructions that came with the Sevans model kit - red and silver!
