Just to add some more info. TV WEEKLY (ITV); apparently showed their first feature on the show c. 89 - 90. I missed it, but was told the team claimed 'they could not find any Bob Monkhouse editions and showed Charlie Williams clips instead'.
I looked into this myself by writing to the ITC film library querying it. ITC were very helpful, replying that they 'had 4 editions, one representing each presenter'. I suspect only the Charlie Williams one was acknowledged as this was the only one held as VT and film T/Rs may have been on a seperate index.
I also put this to a friend who said he recalled from the 1970s that the team presented Bob Monkhouse with a can of the show on his last appearence (April 75 I think). He said obviously the can was empty as the show was going out, but that 'at least that one must exist'.
At Bob Monkhouses Missing believd wiped guest appearence 1993 - 94; he stated that 'a TV company looked for clips of his shows a few years ago but could only find A COUPLE of Charlie Williams editions'.
It does appear from a Victor Lewis Smith show featuring clips; that in addition to a master PAL VT from 1973 there is what looks like a non broadcast off air of Charlie Williams' last show (1974).
Bob Monkhouse went on to say that 'they only had FIVE editions, but that he was announcing the finding of 15 more, bringing the total to 20; that's the good news'.
It was later proposed the shows may have been in Bobs own collection but he was still cautious following the police raid on his collection previously.
there are no details available for these shows, but in Bobs autobiography in the 1990s he singles out several editions in depth with specific comments.
One of these was a Jackie Rae edition 'in which he appeared as a comedy act with stooge Johnnie Vivyan'. I believe Johnnie was the tiny stooge who played double bill to Des O Connor in the 1971 shows and overlap to his series 'Des' (ATV).
Bob said the appearance was to guage audience reaction to him to weigh up his potential as a successor to Jackie Rae, who was leaving the series. In his book he commented that he said 'what about making some kind of recording, such as 16mm to show Lew Grade'.
He also mentions a special 'D day' tribute edition; c. 1968, in which all the targets (designed by Monkhouse); were based on that theme.
He refers to 'the first edition live from 1969, with Anne Aston as the new golden girl'. Also to and edition (1969) featuring Ken Dodd with children dressed as the Diddymen singing; and an unrecorded Norman Wisdom edition c. 1970. He describes in detail how Norman came tumbling down a stairwell nearly dismantling the set, and pulling himself around the studio. He says it was hilariously arnarchic but what a pity it was not recorded.
The other edition he mentions is the last show which features himself singing a number with other presenters Norman Vaughan and Charlie Williams.
I wonder of these may be amongst that batch of 15.
Also, according to a 1979 catalogue of the NFAs holdings, an edition of the show dated April 1968 is held. This would be an early Monkhouse edition after the show stopped being regional only.
The ITC held Monkhouse edition appears to be a 1970 print which has been made by ITC enterprises, implying a complete run of shows may have been transferred to film for overseas sales.
In addition ITC held the series launch promo from 1967 which was shown on Channel 4 in the early 1990s.
previous threads mentioned a small batch of 174 - 75 material being found on Philips tapes. Nothing has emerged from this it seems bar the link from the previous programme with a programme card announcing 'Golden shot' on next.
