Awwh see I knew ep 1 of ROT would turn up eventually. Its curious that the orphaned episodes of stories that they have animated arnt on there. And it's curious power of the daleks is in black and white (which is my personal preference) but most the other stories seem to be the colour animations. Still it's all free do can't be ungrateful just interesting choices and no pattern to them. The latest animated version of Power of the Daleks - the special edition was only in black & white

Although I haven't explored the collection in any depth, personally I think it's brilliant that this is all available so readily, and as Barney suggested earlier, it's good business by the BBC, offering free versions knowing that fully restored episodes are available to buy. Besides, maybe any issues or inconsistencies will be resolved at a later date?

And it's curious power of the daleks is in black and white (which is my personal preference) but most the other stories seem to be the colour animations. Still it's all free do can't be ungrateful just interesting choices and no pattern to them. They are streaming the special edition of Power, for which no colour version exists. This is because Power was originally conceived to be in b&w only by its animation team, and the colour was grafted on to the 2016 version by BBC America for broadcast over there (a fact neither party seems to have been totally happy about occurring). The new scenes done for the special edition went nowhere near BBC America this time, so they’ve not been colourised. I wonder if that 2016 ‘colour’ version is on other streaming providers? I like to think the BBC wouldn’t have put it on iplayer anyway, but plumped for the actually intended b&w. The first b&w animations made for DVDs to fit between existing episodes are a different kettle of fish: the latest animations were conceived and presented as complete, “broader canvas” tellings, with lots of visual expansion/reimagining. I really do agree with them making the colour versions of the other ones actually-made-from-the word-go-by-the-creators in colour the defaults on iplayer. You want the presentation of the episodes to be as vibrant as possible - that’s the “pattern”, surely? And it’s obviously NOT the original version of the episode from the little thumbnails alone: the animations (almost all) appearing in colour on the menus IMHO is the most fitting. I’m glad people like yourself enjoy the b&w presentation of the ones also made in colour… but personally I find them really dull in comparison when I know a widescreen colour version is also available and what the primary focus of the animators would have been. Anyway, these unrestored prints have actually been really fascinating to watch - and all because of a little upload error. “Reign” episode 2 has to be heard to be believed, eh? The music is just crushed warbling. I was hoping the unrestored VHS “Aztecs” was going to be on the list as I much prefer the look and feel of it unrestored; as a kid it made me feel like I was truly watching a piece of history.

Is it the same with RoT 1-3? Episode 1 looks like it's the restored version but the rest of them are unrestored. The monitor isn't visible in any of the other episodes aside from episode 2 so I think it was just a badly done telerecording. Still doesn't explain the distorted audio though, since it sounds normal for all the other episodes. You have to remember a traditional TV wouldn't show that. Analogue television and some tape formats had all sorts of things happening at the edges.

The sound distortion on one of the episode of Teign of Terror is distraction. Are you saying there is a restored version out there.
