Would you believe it? There I was scoffing down on a kebab in my local chip shop and the guy who does all the frying started rambling on about Dr. Who. I mentioned a couple of titles and was surprised to learn that not only did he watch it growing up, but apparently everyone in Ghana has a telecine machine and used to keep prints of some the earlier titles on reels of old film which they'd trade in the corn fields or in the factories. Of course, I joked that it would be great if they still existed now - and no sooner did I say this and he whipped out this old dusty crate of film reels near boxes of soft drinks they had stored in the back. He said he wants a fiver for the lot - but I told him no way is anyone going to pay that much. He just grumbled and said something like "well, if you won't give me a fiver for them, then nobody can have them!" But when i pointed out how that was a lot of money in these current times he just stormed off all upset. I never did get any special sauce on my kebab. I did take a quick photo on my phone before I left. To clarify: the "Dr. Who Ghanaian chip fryer Marco Polo omni rumour" started here. i don't believe that imagine is real, it looks like this image was just edited to have doctor who info on it commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Film_reel.jpgIt is a joke used to comment on the ridiculous state of things, someone says one thing and a whole rumour starts.

Is 'fish-fryer' rhyming slang? Yes it's cockney rs. But if I'm excepting a nice big piece of haddock this Friday, I won't say it on here.

One link you refer to has been locked. Neither are locked. The Utopia one moved out of archive. Unable to access the data...

The Utopia one moved out of archive. Unable to access the data... It's absolutely fine for me. You can still access it. I think it’s a bit rude moving it when all I did was report what was said at a convention in a panel that Paul V was included in This is a missing episodes forum and I was talking about missing episodes like everyone else does. I was enjoying everyone’s discussions on it, very interesting

Has it been checked to see what's inside the cans or is it a hoax

Otherwise we would just have a thread per rumour, "My nan's got Galaxy 4 in her cupboard, she said It's her favourite", "Garry Russell says He enjoys the Celestial Toymaker and wishes for its return.".

I’ve only made one thread about missing episodes and it was doing well with lots of interesting discussions. The other one I did was about a potential animation so 2 very different threads but doesn’t matter now anyway

The other one I did was about a potential animation so 2 very different threads but doesn’t matter now anyway It's not a simple as 'move it from here to there', now, given that the Algerian fish-fryer has been brought into this from another thread. I'm not into multiplying fractions, but it's getting to a point now of asking how to divide a cake in 7 equal pieces, which is already divided into 6 equal pieces, so that everyone gets a piece of the cake. Do we therefore start a completely new thread?

I think it’s a bit rude moving it when all I did was report what was said at a convention in a panel that Paul V was included in This is a missing episodes forum and I was talking about missing episodes like everyone else does. I was enjoying everyone’s discussions on it, very interesting I don't think any rudeness was intended, Jake. But what intrigued me was to read on the thread that 2 Who missing episodes are with a US collector. Now, this brings to mind an old story I once heard (pre-internet days), where a fan made a claim (with no shred of evidence to back up his claim, of course) that he'd been to a Who convention in 1981 and that an American fan there gave a late night showing to a few people of a 16mm copy of Power of the Daleks (which episode it wasn't mentioned). The fan who made the claim said he wasn't aware at the showing it was missing (in fact, prior to the DWM 81 Winter Special not many fans were aware of lost Who eps, or at least to what extent). I don't know, but has this 81 Con late-night showing story ever been mentioned on this forum? Has anyone on here ever claimed to have been at the convention? What would be weird, right, is if one day that collector handed over his 2 films, and not only did one turn out to be a POTD ep, but it also transpires that he turns out to be the very guy who gave the light night showing! Maybe he too, back in 81, never realised he had a lost episode! If anyone has heard this story please contribute your thoughts. As I said, it is an old story - pre-internet. I've never seen the story in print, but I heard of it at college in the 90s. But if it has been raised on here then a link to that thread would be appreciated, thanks.

Can we please stop reposting that image, especially if all you're doing is adding a short reply.
