Hi apologies in advance if some people feel this is too off topic and also regards if this has already been discussed.
I was just wondering what original 16mm or 35mm location film exists at the BBC archives. I know that some was only scanned in SD and is now in collectors hands some of whom has been contacted and some out of contact
I am just wondering what is known to exist and what has been scanned in HD and what is yet to be scanned in high definition

It’s all listed in Richard Molesworth’s book, Wiped! Ahhh hah!!! Hey and I bought this one .the latest edition!!! Will dig this one out to check actually. Cheers for the reply Richard ... Adding to this that there could be developments since this publication. Recently Paul Vanezis said in an interview - which I will try and post here after this- Paul said that they were looking for some A/B rolls which they scanned in SD never imagining back then that they would be releasing classic who in HD. And that some of these were in hands of private collectors some of whom had wanted to loan to be copied and had previously mentioned or reminded the RTbut had been out of contact etc . In other words a collector more than keen to loan the films just the logistics or being in contact etc etc (hopefully) There may be some more location film back and/or scanned in HD since Richard Molesworth's book Wiped! which is a thorough and concisely awesome publication btw

All the known-about existing footage, whether in the BBC Archives or in private collections is listed in the book in the The Archives Today appendix at the back. There is no definitive list as to what's been scanned in HD and what hasn't though. It's done on an as-and-when basis when we come to do the relevant Blu-ray Collections, dependant on availability and funds.

According to Wiped! both of these survive in private collections. From The Curse of Peladon there's the pit duel from Episode Three and also the mountainside footage from Episode One, both on 16mm. These were used for the DVD.

A few years ago I had seen location film from DW on eBay. I think maybe Colony in Space was one of them and Ressurection of the Daleks possibly If you can remember the Colony location footage being up on eBay, then you've got a good memory! The three cans of film trims were sold in 2004. I bought two of them and the other, as far as I'm aware, is still with the other buyer from back then. Nothing from Resurrection has appeared on eBay.
