Barring another miracle (like Africa) I don't think any more episodes will ever be retrieved and I suspect the rest are all in landfill somewhere dotted around the place. It's now less about the hunt and more about being grateful for what has been rescued (imho) That was exactly the situation we were in before the miracle happened. Richard It’s worth remembering that we’ve been through several phases over about the past forty five years. Rewind to the late 1970s and the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee years were somewhat threadbare. It was Sue Malden and Ian Levine who organised the search for b&w prints and 2” colour VTs with overseas broadcasters. Orphans started being recovered and there was Tomb from Hong Kong and Time Meddler/War Machines from Nigeria. Things then went relatively quiet until PM instituted what could be described as “trust but verify”, i.e., actually go and look in storerooms, the cupboard under the stairs, etc at overseas broadcasters that showed DW. We don’t know exactly how many places PM has crossed off his list but I think it’s now reasonable to assume that there can’t be many left. There’s also the work done by the likes of Jon Preddle on tracking down exactly where and when DW was shown and reconstructing bicycle chains together with working out how many prints of each story were probably struck. Other than orphans with collectors, WoF3 somewhere and, perhaps, a couple of prints in Iran there aren’t many more straws to grasp. To add to that there’s the possibility of better audios for some of the b&w stories and, perhaps, some very early home video recordings. That’s all folks!

I remember when Tomb was found it was considered pretty much a miracle.
I definitely thought EotW and Web were miracles!
So, you know, miracles do happen :-)
Until then, people are always saying: "it'll take a miracle".

Speaking of miracles, let us not forget, friends, that Mr Morris HAS promised us more Doctor Who.
At a missing episodes event sometime in the previous decade, he was asked directly by the interviewer during a talk, "When are we getting some more Doctor Who?" to which he replied, "When you least expect it."
His reply echoes the words of Matthew 24 v 44, concerning the second coming of Christ: "You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected."
This gives us a picture of the watching and waiting process: Christ IS coming, but no-one knows the exact day or hour of the Saviour's return. Likewise, Mr Morris - the saviour of lost television - IS coming through on his promise to save more episodes from the destruction to come (the hell of vinegar saturation etc.). Therefore, while we must believe with faith, and watch and wait patiently, it may not happen at any 'expected' event, such as the 60th.
At the same talk, he also said he wanted the next reveal to be different to the 2013 reveal, to hit us sideways with surprise, like a truck. Whatever that means...

I’m no theologian but that sounds more like a hope than a promise or prediction. It’s reminiscent of “Expect the unexpected”! We know that, assuming it hasn’t been destroyed, WoF3 is out there somewhere. Perhaps PM will get an email and find himself holding a full film can. The Lion turned up because, iirc, someone put a list of their collection online - that’s how some non-DW MEs have turned up. Airlock and UM2 were recovered because of a casual conversation Ralph Montague had with a collector he bumped into. Remember, there will always be “one more ME” out there!

The Melbourne taper is an interesting case. He didn't want his collection to become public property, but he didn't want it destroyed either. Instead he had a private agreement with other collectors to take it when he died. Fortunately (and unfortunately) he didn't tell his family about this, so the bulk of it went to the Nation Film and Sound Archive. But only after most of the U-Matic tapes were binned. Even so, I think this counts as a miracle.

Someone - often a male - builds up a collection over their lifetime and when they die their widow, who hates it because it kept their husband away from them, bins it.

The chap who worked on it and did the podcast had really thought it through on many levels.

While i believe Melbourne will uncover some interesting tidbits , id be very surprised if there were any missing who
The small number of reel to reels could be cataloged quickly and unfortunately the umatics are gone.
So assuming he had them... and backed them up.. it appears a long shot.

The binned U-Matics wouldn't have had missing Doctor Who on them. What we've lost is the chance of Countdown, This Day Tonight, Certain Women, Number 96, and umpteen other mostly missing mid-Seventies Australian shows.

Whatever comes out of the Melbourne haul, its pretty damn amazing these discoveries are still happening. What would be even more amazing is if we could contact the two other collectors he was in contact with, to see what they may have also. My impression from the initial report was that they were seriously naffed off by what happened,,,but if all tapes etc were maybe returned to them as planned after anything missing may have been copied etc, it may help. This is where Wills and making sure someone knows your wishes is so important.

And potentially, if he had had a predilection for it, missing BBC comedy. A lot of that stuff was last aired in Australia.

Speaking of miracles, let us not forget, friends, that Mr Morris HAS promised us more Doctor Who. Yeah… thing is Phil tended to say a hell of a lot back then, much of which that, in hindsight, he probably regrets now. Certainly when a hardcore gaggle of fans start invasively documenting your movements (of the geographical rather than bowel variety) and your company’s business activities, it’s time to stop actively fostering (what was ultimately) false hope… Thankfully Phil’s a lot more circumspect these days when it comes to missing ‘Who. Lesson learned.
