Very interesting Ray. So sad when you realise how many amazing performances have been wiped

Will comment later when I've more time (and when I'm over this streaming cold!), but shouldn't it be in the "Top Of The Pops + Music Shows" sections? I rarely look at any other parts, so have only just seen this.

22/05/1975 JACKIE WILSON – I Get The Sweetest Feeling This is so annoying. One of the recovered Pan's People tapes has Tony comment after PP have finished dancing to the Stylistics and he says he's a massive fan of Jackie Wilson.... the camera pans.... and the recording finishes. I do believe this was the only time he appeared live too. It's highly likely to be his only live performance - although he lived until 1984, he was incapacitated in Sep 75 and never performed again. So that would be high on my bucket list too! Blackburn is indeed a huge fan, I never miss his Sunday soul show.

Thank you for a fascinating list Ray. I agree with 99.5%……I just have two comments/ queries which you may be kind enough to answer.
1) Reference books on The Byrds suggest they pre-recorded an appearance for March 16 1967 of “So you wanna be a rock n roll star” which would be on my most wanted list.
2) An unsubstantiated rumour that Johnny Kidd and the Pirates appeared or pre-recorded for the 1964 single “Always and Ever”. As zero footage of the band survives, that would also be some find. Any thoughts? Gary

Just to digress slightly regarding Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, does 'zero footage of the band' allude to full performances? There are a few seconds of cine film of the band playing live included in the excellent Julien Temple movie "The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson".

Love Affair- Rainbow Valley I have audio of this TOTP performance & Steve Ellis puts in a mighty live vocal over a very loud TOTP orchestra.

I think I can clear up the beach boys question… I’m certain they performed! I have seen two photos on the net, one in performance and one in rehearsal …let me see if I can find and post ?

21/09/1967 THE HOLLIES – King Midas In Reverse ....which leads me to this. Again the old miming ban precluded the earlier stuff, and I went for this as I'd love to see how they performed it.
I was a bit surprised with how few selections I'd made from 1967. I'm blaming big ballads and the first appearance of existing shows.[/quote]
Am I right in thinking there is no footage of King Midas being performed in existance ?

One from your list that has always stuck in my mind was the Frankie Howerd appearance. Because it annoyed me. I would have been 10 at the time and have to say I don't recall it being an interview at all. It was more like Howerd doing a stand up routine in his 'Up Pompeii' outfit that went on far to long before they finally got around to starting the song. I remember thinking they could have had at least 2 other acts on instead of him waffling on. As for the V sign... The chorus of the song went "Oooooh Up Pompeii, up Pompeii" and he waved 2 fingers progressively higher up in the air each time he said the word "up". Frankly it was a rubbish record and to make matters worse they repeated it a couple of weeks later (despite the record not charting) including a waffling introduction mercifully edited a bit shorter. I suppose the fact it was repeated means it might still exist somewhere in the archive.
