Captain Kirk is the clear winner here amongst readers north of the border in the Scottish Daily Express shortly before Pertwees debut.

Here is the original article dated 29/11/1969. I shared Ms Rowes frustration at that long gap since waving the travellers goodbye at the end of Season Six. Attachments:

I remember my Dad mentioning that Star Trek was a talking point in the Autumn of 1969.

The comment that shatner could act compared to thoughton is ludicrous.
Shatner does shatner great. But troughton is unique in all the parts he plays

Shatner should have been deported home as an illegal immigrant. Would have been smart move by LBJ.

Was it more that Star Trek was in colour? or did most people still not have colour sets anyway at that point?

Not surprising Star Trek was the winner. Dr.Who was held together by good actors and writers, but the viewers wanted a bit more than the tatty old ephemeral, soap opera BBC production methods.
Had ATV made it, it would have looked something like this cheesy (failed) pilot.

Was that a re-cycled Galasphere as part of the large space station? It had all the hallmarks of Roberta Leigh and Space Patrol. I might have watched it for Martine Beswick though.

Yes Roberta Leigh had taught Gerry Anderson about puppets but then followed in his shadow trying to do her own stuff (see 'Paul Starr' on You Tube). I think 'Solarnauts' became her 'last chance saloon' in TV production. I thought Martine and 'Logic' were the best part about it but obviously it still needed a lot of work done to it if it was to become a series.

Was it more that Star Trek was in colour? or did most people still not have colour sets anyway at that point? One of the reasons that Star Trek was renewed for 3 seasons and thus became incredibly popular due to syndication was because it was made in colour and helped to sell colour television sets made by NBC's parent company RCA.

From trailers I've seen from the early days of Star Trek NBC were pushing colour in a big way, I think they were the first network to fully switch to colour, at least in prime time. I imagine the sale of colour sets were catching on around that time.
