I am trying to find contact details to see if a programme broadcast in 1978 still exists and if so whether they could quote me a price for a private copy. I've tried various e-mail addresses found on the internet eg sales@itnarchive.com (because one source told me ITN was the repository for Granada) sales@itnsource.combut have had no replies. A friend said he'd read in www.4rfv.co.uk/c/6792/itn-source that "they're about to repatriate the Granada archive to Manchester with launch event this week. Pop culture archive. So probably the best point of contact is about to change." This all seems incredibly complex. I can understand why the archives of small fly by night companies should be tricky to track down, but Granada? I've used e-mail so far because it's easy and doesn't cost anything. I would be happy to write formally if I was sure the address I used wouldn't be the snail mail equivalent of the e-mail black holes I am encountering.

I've visited that site before. It appears to be solely for the purpose of using the archive for commercial purpose. The e-mail address quoted is CLIPSALES@ etc. To get a 'clip' you have to register, and "Registrations are limited to professional and commercial users only. We’re sorry but it is not possible to grant access to members of the public." At any rate, at this point all I want to do is to establish whether or not the programme still exists.

I have had contact via clipsales@itv.com. But if you just want to establish whether it exists, why not try the Kaleidoscope site at www.lostshows.com?

I would suggest emailing clipsales@itv.com and see what response you get about a specific series etc.

It is an episode of University Challenge I'm after, and searching in Lostshows gives (small but sequential sample, the final listings on the Univ Challenge search). 29.03.1971 Episode No. 100 (missing) 05.04.1971 Episode No. 101 (missing) 26.12.1975 Christmas Special (missing) 30.03.1980 Episode No. 123 (missing) 13.04.1980 Episode No. 124 (missing) 20.04.1980 Episode No. 125 (missing) This would imply that my broadcast from 1978 exists, but I find it hard to believe: (a) that apart from the 1975 Christmas Special, there are NO missing broadcasts between 05.04.71 and 30.03.80 and (b) That Episode 101 was April 1971 and Episode 123 was March 1980 ie a gap of 9 years but numerically only 22 episodes.

I have a subscription to the database, and had a look. Only one episode from 1978 is listed, the Christmas one TX 28.12.1978, which survives. The Wikipedia article for the programme seems to be missing info from this period too.
