Does anyone know the archive status of the ITV Playhouse series which ran from 1967 through to 1982/3?

I checked TV Brain and out of 16 years of programming only 4 episodes appear to have survived and are archived. Appalling. I think the question should be does anyone know if there are any finds of the missing episodes?

'ITV Playhouse' only began in 1977. Before that there was a play strand on ITV called 'Playhouse' which ran 1967-1974, then revived in the early-80s.
'TV Brain' (without a paid subscription) only lists the titles that are missing in one way or another - totally or surviving on inferior formats or only partially. It does NOT individually list the surviving episodes

Does anyone know the archive status of the ITV Playhouse series which ran from 1967 through to 1982/3? I haven't had time to check if all the episodes I'm going to list ARE all ITV Playhouse but when I found them on-line they were described as being such. The episodes are: ITV Playhouse - S01 E12 - The Best Pair Of Legs In The Business (1968) - Reg Varney Your Name's Not God, It's Edgar s2 e17 ITV Playhouse - s03 e12 (1969) - Suspect ITV Playhouse - S03 E22 (1970) -Rumour Ghosts [ITV Playhouse 1977] Last Summer [ITV Playhouse] (Stephen Frears 1977) Facing the Sun [ITV Playhouse] (Claude Whatham 1980) Casting the Runes I've just copied and pasted the file titles as they appeared to me so I hope they are correct. I hope this helps.

As a rule of thumb.
Dramas made by Anglia/Yorkshire/Granada probably still exists..they did not have a wiping policy and the small amount that is lost is by accident or damage.
Thames/LWT have losses from their first couple of years but from about 1971 I would say all of it is still there .
The biggest losses are with the franchise losers Rediffusion/ABC/ATV/Southern.While STV had a fire.
But there is some hope with ATV as the BFI have now found a considerable archive and Harlech seems to be all there it was a matter of finding it.

Thanks for the responses.'We never do what they want' from 1978 was the starting point in researching this series, an unusual effort looking back at the events of the late sixties through a couples relationship and how it developed over time through to the seventies. I don't see that title in this thread, but if anyone knows its status?

Great to hear about the BFI archive, find with the word 'considerable' in it, Peter, look forward to hearing more when it comes up. Shame about ABC as Mystery And Imagination would be an amazing find

I don't see that title in this thread, but if anyone knows its status? 'We never do what they want' will almost certainly be in the Freemantle Archive. This blog by a chap called Billy Smart often lists finds that the BFI have renovated. The BFI is drip feeding ATV plays as they have a limited amount of obsolete VTR machines that they have to keep working to transfer. forgottentelevisiondrama.wordpress.com/category/billy-smart/page/2/
