I think one of the early ideas for what was to become Eastenders was going to be set in a new town.

"High Living featured the Crombie family (Andy, Kate and their children) who move into a new apartment in a high-rise apartment block in Glasgow." but IMDB isn't a lot of help with the cast; at present, it has the actors playing the two leads appearing in a total of six episodes. (Others are shown as appearing in two...). I wonder from whence they derive the figures? That's a problem with soaps of that time if it was on everyday newspapers/mags/studio publicity etc get tired of listing any plot/ new characters and just tend to say it is on and that is it, another one of that era was 'Market in Honey Lane' but William has turned up trumps again so will try to get that up there.

I know this picture is not great so this is what the article says ... In the past few weeks Scottish Television has been moulding into life a new television family.
They are the Crombies - central figures in an ambitious weekly series which makes it's debut this week.
It is High Living and that is exactly what the Crombies enjoy, as tenants of a 10th floor flat in a new "skyscraper" block in central Scotland.
The Crombies are ordinary folk, who, as they get on with their daily life, experience the joys and problems which happen to ordinary folk; the real life happenings on which drama is based.
In the family is Kate and her husband, Andy (Clare Richards and Ken Henderson) their children Chrissie, 16, (Jennifer Angus) and Tommy, 18, (John Buick) and Gran Crombie (Betty Henderson)
The first episode is The Flitting and sees the Crombies moving out of their old tenement where Gran has spent most of her life, and heading for their new world in the clouds. Gran becomes disgruntled with multi-story life, missing her wee local shops where she was so well known. Her moods lead to a "blow-up" with daughter-in-law Kate.
The following week finds the Crombies taking part in the community life of the block by helping to run a prize draw in aid of a pensioners' Christmas treat. But there is trouble when the draw does'nt go according to plan.
Producer Ian dalgleish, who with script editor Henry Hay, has created the new series, says: "Our aim is to establish on the screen a group of people in whom we can reflect something of present-day Scottish life and character. "

Frighteningly I could still sing along to it on that You-tube link!!!
