Does the forum reckon or know if this was ever televised?
Who were the backing group with Billy?
It says below the footage a 20 year old Billy Fury at a small London venue - can anyone find out what that venue was?
At the end as Billy disappears under that swarm of girls, a man is seen trying to rescue him, does anyone think it was Larry Parnes - his manager?
Just as the footage ends, another mystery man is seen sitting in an office or studio setting - can anyone identify him?
And another question ... only kidding !

It's from a US TV show called 'David Brinkley's Journal', which ran 1961-1964 on NBC (I'm sure others on here can add further details!). Incidentally, over the weekend I saw Billy Fury's old colleague and friend Marty Wilde, 83 years young but still with incredible energy and sounding like he did in the 50s! With him were 82 year old Eden Kane (excellent) and 79 year old Mark Wynter (I'm not a huge fan, but he's also a good entertainer). Catch them on tour while you can: martywilde.com/events/

The YT posting indicates that the backing group was the Blue Flames although I didn't see or hear Georgie Fame - perhaps it may be from before he joined the group?

TX date I have is 22 November 1961. Not certain how accurate that is though. I think the musicians we can see are Red Reece (drums), Tex Makins (bass) and Colin Green (guitar) so it is the Blue Flames. Anyone able to 100% confirm that ? My understanding is that the Blue Flames were booted by Parnes days after a December 1961 appearance at the Paris Olympia for being too jazzy. Knowing Parnes they may simply have asked to be paid ! Two songs exist from that particular Paris show in the Musicorama archives if anyone wants to put up the mortgage like fees the current owners charge.

TX date I have is 22 November 1961. I really should read my own books, as that's what I wrote in 'Channelling The Beat!' (2019 revised edition)! Not sure when it was filmed, but 'Just Because' seemed to be part of his repertoire around this time: he also performed the song on 'All That Jazz', broadcast 5th January 1962.

TX date I have is 22 November 1961. I checked the US newspaper archives. And, yes, 22 November 1961 is the correct broadcast date.

The fires may dim but they never totally go out. Also I never realised that Billy came from Mississippi judging by his accent at the beginning.

IMDB says David Brinkley Journal Episode 7, 22 November 1961
As the complete programme also contains footage of Johnny Hallyday and David Brinkley says he is an 18 year old
His date of birth is 15 June 1943, so we can pin the date of this recording footage of Billy Fury, somewhere between 15/6/61 and 22/11/61.
Billy was born 17 April 1940, so he was 21 not 20 when this footage recording was done.
David Brinkley says Billy had so far sold 3 million records and more importantly for this thread question 'what is the small London venue? Brinkley says the footage of Billy was performed in front of his fan club at a London nightclub.
Can anyone find out which nightclub that was - perhaps Billy Fury's fan club would have a record of that night club performance?

Does anyone have access to the 29 September 1961 issue of New Musical Express? According to this NME index: www.skidmore.edu/~gthompso/britrock/NME/nme6109.html29 September 1961 (Issue No. 768) has an item titled "Billy on U.S. TV [Billy Fury]" on page 6 Maybe they're describing Fury's appearance on "David Brinkley's Journal" with additional details. It was the only US TV appearance I could find for Billy Fury during this time. Unfortunately, 29Sep1961 is missing from this archive: worldradiohistory.com/New_Music_Express.htm
