It's even more impressive than that John.
Here's the list of 'The Vise: Volume 1'
Dr. Damon's Experiment** - Laurence Naismith Death Pays No Dividends** - Eunice Gayson The Very Silent Traveller* - Donald Masters The Gamblers** - Thea Gregory The Count of 12** - John Longden The Final Column** - Christopher Lee The Benevolent Burglar** - James Hayter Broken Honeymoon** - Adrienne Corri Death on the Boards** - Derek Bond Behind the Mask** - Betta St. John The Cruel Test** - Joyce Heron The Deception** - Marjorie Stewart Week-End Guest** - Mary Hinton Account Closed** - Helen Backlin, Dennis Price Man in Demand** - Dorothy Gordon The Verdict* - Adrianne Allen, Fred Johnson Death in White* - Ronan O'Casey Never Let Me Down - Kay Callard Side Entrance* - Thea Gregory The Search for Martha Harris* - Jennie Laird Cross Channel* - Patrick Holt. Paula Bryn
*Originally broadcast on ITV as the series 'Crooked Path' **Originally broadcast on ITV as the series 'Tension'
Most of these are listed as missing or incomplete on Kaleidoscope's database. This is because they only list archives they know the contents of and everything else as missing, which is a bit wrong headed. They should really list those titles as 'status not known'.

Great! The 'Richard the Lionheart' series was a very popular show with a catchy theme tune.
The Danzigers were known for their er..very quick production methods putting it nicely. One visitor to a set heard something like "we need another cop in this shot" to which the reply was " F***! the cop we haven't got time for that, just get the shot"
Consequently, the Danziger archive is vast for the 10 years they were in production.

The BFI have a whole load of Danziger material but all as negs and only labelled as the name of the series - I think they were all donated by a film lab when they closed down (possibly Humphries)... I did enquire a few years ago on behalf of the rights holder but even just a shelf check would have cost too much (to open a can and see what was in it). I would imagine that Network have a deal with the BFI about access anyway which is why they are coming out. Though I do know that the rights holder had a complete run of Richard the Lionheart on 16mm in Florida, which they shipped over...

Thanks for the info, Paul. I couldn't actually see a listing for 'Vise' on TVBrain. (So many permutations for the series/srrieses. And there was I thinking it might be Christmas before we saw more classic TV from Network! As ever, lots of info at CTVA ctva.biz/UK/Danziger/MarkSaber_(1955-56).htm

Thanks for the info, Paul. I couldn't actually see a listing for 'Vise' o TVBrain. (So many permutations for the series/srrieses. And there was I thinking it might be Christmas before we saw more classic TV from Network! As ever, lots of info at CTVA ctva.biz/UK/Danziger/MarkSaber_(1955-56).htmYeah. You won't find 'The Vise' etc... on TV Brain. That's because it's created from TV listings cross referenced with the established film and TV archives. So if it's at the BBC, ITV or the BFI then it will be close, but not accurate enough to be reliable. What it isn't though is particularly accurate regarding programmes made by independent companies that may retain their own archives and don't share what holdings they have, or for specific programmes that are co-productions, where different co-producers may retain different versions and/or different rights. Despite the early 'Vise' and Mark Saber episodes being made in the UK, they were actually destined for the US market. Some were made in 1954/55 but not screened in the UK until 1958, some as late as 1962 and under the 'Tension' or 'Crooked Path' banners. So the episode 'Dr. Damon's Experiment' which was screened in the US in October 1954 as part of the first series of 'The Vise' wasn't shown in the UK until May 1963 as part of 'Tension'. As Mark Tinkler has pointed out, the BFI ended up with a lot of material when Humphries labs closed. However, it does appear to be fully catalogued now. For 'Dr. Damon's Experiment' the BFI have some prints and there are also some fine grains in the Danziger archive which is what Network have access to. There may not appear to be a full set of all the Danziger made shows at the moment, but I am hopeful that with some additional research a full set can be assembled. Paul

But of course they were never really missing. TV Brain isn't the be all and end all when it comes to what is and is not missing. Not by a long stretch. Paul

While it's the goal, of course, there's something a bit depressing about any field that's been 100% catalogued.

Well, I've inally gone for the Vise set, £10.20 for threexdiscs.
It's now a year since these were released. Hopefully, the follow-up volumes will be forthcoming.
