No need to apologise Stephen. You are a committed and enthusiastic collector, and its a damn shame there aren't more people like you, particularly at BBC Enterprises back in the day.
Regards my UK gold tapes I would have to review them to see what was salvageable, back then I wasn't particularly interested with continuities and would quite often stop at the episode ending (to save Vhs tape - sorry) and many do appear to be online.
Back in 2005, I didn't record any new who because I was already buying the classic series on DVd so I suppose I didn't see the point (again sorry)

I follow a blog called VHistory (until it sadly ended last year). I can't find the name of the author / collector on the site so possibly it's somebody here? I don't know, but thought I'd mention it just in case. B) vhistory.wordpress.com/

Strangely and confirming how important off-airs are, there is a scene in Remembrance of the Daleks where Dr Who references itself when a TV announcer in 1963 introduces a brand new sci-fi series just before it changes to another scene...

That would've been a recreation though. They wouldn't have anything, even the audio, like that around from 1963 would they? I'm expecting even the home recordist enthusiasts unlikely to take up any tape with that stuff. There were some even earlier recreations for that one David Tennant set in the early '50s where he climbs the Alexandra Palace transmitting tower; a lot of fun however daft!

I used to record episodes back in the last 1970’s early 80’s from WTTW Chicago. They had the same announcer most of the time who rarely pronounced the monsters, places, or just about any Doctor Who related words correctly. It was always fun to hear what he would butcher next. I’ll have to dig out my tapes and see how many moments I can relive.

There was a feature I think if I remember correctly it was on the "Revenge of the Cybermen" DVD where they played some off air continuity from the closing credits of I think it was a Jon Pertwee episode and the continuity announcer was clearly taking the piss out of the program. I cant remember if it was from the ABC down under or from a US PBS broadcast though. Perhaps some one can enlighten me

The ABC in Australia took the piss on a regular basis through a long series of repeats in the 80s. It was fun at times, annoying at others. I think there's one on a DVD for Inferno that goes along the lines of "Dr Who and the nasty green man will return tomorrow...". There were many others I had on tape. Wish I kept them for nostalgia sake.

Back in 2003 I recorded all of UK Gold's Doctor Who @ 40 weekend on VHS tape, including the advert breaks. As well as many of the episodes aired weekly around that time, and probably Dalek Day as well. Would these be of any interest, or are similar copies already archived? They'd be of interest to me!
All off-airs interest me. Even if it's a recording of something I already have, I almost always gain something new from another copy.
I don't have much UK Gold stuff at all post 1994.
I do have off-airs of some of the @40 Weekend, but there are gaps, and I don't have any episode continuity from that period at all, so it would be lovely to add some.
UK Gold will probably have kept masters of the @40 material. A good amount of it was repackaged just a couple of years later on March 26th 2005, leading up to 'Rose' (when the channel name had changed to UKTV Gold), so they kept it for a while at least, but I've learned that nothing is certain.
I'd assume that UK Gold continuities were never archived, and as far as I know, I'm the only person interested in collecting them... but I'd be keen to preserve them.
Drop me a PM if you'd like to get them digitised.
Great to hear, I'll PM you just as soon as I can find them!

I remember DWM once having an article on an Australian announcement on a traded off-air tape owned by one of the journalists.
It was a repeat of The Mutants from what I recall.

I’ve just been sorting through some VHS tapes before they go on eBay. One has a BBC1 slide advertising an episode of Delta and the Bannerman, would this be of interest to you?
Also, it’s just reminded me that I think I’ve seen some Dr Who on some Betamax tapes I had out recently. So there may be some trailer/idents on there from around 1983/1984.

Just how easy is it to rip stuff off a VHS tape these days?
I do still have an old video player, though I don't think it's been switched on for 20 years. I think it has a SCART socket on the back.

Richard Relatively easy. I’ve got a Freeview HDD recorder with a DVD recorder built in. So I copy the VHS to the internal hard drive, make any edits, then burn to a disc. The disc can then be ripped to a computer if needed.

I’ve got a Toshiba box with VHS/HDD/DVD - you can chop out the adverts before burning to DVD.
